The Oklahoma teacher walkout is ending after nine days, Oklahoma Education Association President Alicia Priest said Thursday.After getting 9 million in funding for the next school year, the OEA decided to end the walkout, Priest said in a news conference, though the funding falls short of what they'd hoped to achieve."We need to face reality," Priest told reporters. "Despite tens of thousands of people filling the Capitol and spilling out onto the grounds of this Capitol for nine days, we have seen no significant legislative movement since last Friday."Priest said the OEA had been in negotiations with lawmakers in both the Oklahoma House and Senate, but it became clear that "Senate Republicans won't budge an inch on any more revenue for public education."The OEA had been polling its members throughout the walkout, and Priest said that by Thursday, 70% of respondents indicated they were unsure of continuing the walkout.Priest claimed Oklahoma teachers had secured a "victory." Reporters at Thursday's news conference pressed her, pointing out that the union gained little, if any, additional funding than what they had before the beginning of the walkout.She pushed back, saying, "We also got funding afterwards."Before teachers walked out on April 2, Gov. Mary Fallin signed a bill giving teachers a ,100 raise. The OEA had called passage of the bill a "truly historic moment," but said it didn't go far enough. They wanted that figure to be ,000.Fallin also signed a bill that raised education funding over the next fiscal year by million. The teachers' union also wanted that number to be higher."This fight is not over just because the school bell rings once more and our members walk back into schools," Priest said in a statement. And these poses have helped them with much more than flexibility."My post traumatic stress was going so fast," says William Walls, a Marine who served in Iraq. "You accept the fact that possibly every day you could die, that's really what it is."And his transition back to civilian life, wasn't so easy. "I ended up spending a little bit of time in jail," Walls recalls. "Had a drinking problem and I didn't realize it was a problem. And yeah and it's just been, it was hell."He tried medicine, therapy and was still battling depression when he received an unexpected recommendation."My therapist kept saying hey why don't you try yoga," Walls remembers. "And I'm like no that's for other people. I'm a big bad tough marine. I don't need yoga."He eventually tried it, and can still remember his first class. "I just started to cry," Walls says. "And I don't even know why I started to cry just something was released inside of me. Something was letting go and I realized like I like this. I like this a lot. This is better than drugs and alcohol."Now Walls is not only a yoga student, but is becoming a teacher through this program, called Comeback Yoga. Everyone in the organization is a volunteer. And co-founder Margot Timbel says every veteran, no matter their level, is welcome."Don't be intimidated if you think yoga is for flexible people or that yoga is for people who have to be able to stand up and get up and down off the mat all the time," Timbel says. " Yoga is for every body and everybody."Now these veterans are experiencing a camaraderie of a different kind."They have experienced the same things you have and may even have the same problems," says veteran Curtis Schaub.And they are hoping more who sacrificed to serve will join them on this unexpected path.The Comeback Yoga classes are free for veterans and their family members. 2043

People need to be responsible pet owners in this community," says State Attorney Dave Aronberg."The animals should be a valued part of your family and they should be a part of your plan," says Animal Care and Control Capt. Dave Walesky. More than 50 dogs and 15 cats were surrendered to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. Around 38 other dogs, left to fend for themselves, mostly in the Glades area.  "Many of them were loose inside fenced yards, some were loose in the community where they just got turned loose or some were tied and left in small cages," says Walesky. "One of the dogs was left tied to a structure with a bowl of water and a bunch of bananas." It's not just sad, it's a crime. "And there is no excuse for leaving your pet behind to die. We are going to hold accountable those who we can prove left their dogs behind in the storm," says Aronberg.   1261
