ATHENS, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- The third Forum on the Development of Tibet concluded here on Friday after discussions on efforts to promote the world's understanding of Tibet and enhance the cooperation between China and the rest of the world with regards to Tibet's development.This year marks the 60th anniversary of Tibet's peaceful liberation. During the two-day event, delegates from Greece, Britain, France, Germany, India and Nepal expressed their opinions on Tibet's modernization and put forward valuable advice and suggestions based on their own experience and research findings.Some of the foreign delegates have visited Tibet many times before. Narasimhan Ram, Editor-in-chief of The Hindu from India and Brendan O'Neill, editor of the British magazine Spiked spoke positively about the preferential polices and financial support of the Chinese central government and other parts of China for the region.During the Forum, Wang Chen, head of the Chinese State Council Information Office met with the Greek political leaders and journalists from mainstream media.People got an opportunity to learn more about China as Nyima Tsering, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region, introduced the development of Tibet and the Chinese government's policy towards the region.A number of Greek mainstream media covered the Forum.Over the past 60 years, Tibet has achieved a huge development in both its social structure and socio-economic development, said a communique released upon the end of the forum.It also foresees a great potential of cooperation with the international community in energy, environment, education and healthcare development for the region.The forum has facilitated better understanding of Tibet in the international community and will help to promote faster and better development of the autonomous region, the Communique said.

JAKARTA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) representative for Indonesia Angela Kearney said on Thursday that Indonesia's infant mortality rate is still high although it showed a downward trend in the past few years, local media reported.Based on a UNICEF global child mortality report, over the past 10 years infant mortality rate declined significantly to 35 out of every 1,000 births in 2011 from 97 out of every 1,000 births in 1991, she said at workshop on household to hospital cantinuum care held in Makassar, South Sulawesi.The achievement was inseparable from the central and regional government's endeavors, she said.After all, the results of a health demography survey showed 193, 000 children lost life chance every year before they reached the age of 5 years, she said.In South Sulawesi alone, 17.3 out of every 1,000 newborns died before they reached the age of 28 days last year. Two-thirds of the deaths occurred on the first week of their life and one out of every four mothers gave birth to their children without the help of trained medical workers.Mothers' poor access to health facilities in the country posed one of the obstacles to the promotion of the nation's health. One out of every five mothers came from poor families, she said.She said that a lack of infrastructures and equipment and the low number of trained medical workers had hindered the fulfillment of health services, the Antara news service said.To deal with the challenge, the method of providing health services must be improved and the support of trained medical workers must be increased, she said."I am very happy to see UNICEF cooperating with the South Sulawesi provincial government to develop comprehensive approaches to overcome the shortcomings at social level and public health system at provincial health facilities," she said.

HELSINKI, Nov.23 (Xinhua) -- Nokia Siemens Networks is planning to cut its workforce by 17,000 worldwide by the end of 2013, the company said in a statement on Wednesday in Espoo, Finland.The company said the measures are part of an extensive global restructuring program, in which it will focus on mobile broadband and services."We need to take the necessary steps to maintain long term competitiveness and improve profitability in a challenging telecommunications market," said the company's Chief Executive Rajeev Suri in the statement.Rajeev Suri called the job cuts regrettable but necessary, and said the company would provide support for individuals and communities affected by the cuts, but defended the decision on economic grounds.Nokia Siemens is aiming to cut operating expenditures by around a billion euros over two years.Some 74,000 people currently work for the Espoo-based company in 150 countries, around 7,000 in Finland. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Google will launch its new music service next week, U.S. media reported on Friday.In an emailed invitation, Google said it will hold an event called "These Go to Eleven" next Wednesday in Los Angeles, which is expected to be the debut of Google Music, tech news website The Verge reported.Google is reported to be adding new features over the current version of its music service, such as a MP3 music store with connection to its social network Google+.According to a separate report from technology news site CNET on Friday, Google has not yet got licensing deals with all four of the major labels -- Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI.Google introduced a beta version of its music service called Music Beta in May, enabling users to upload their entire music libraries for free to Google servers and stream songs from any browser or Android-based devices.Since the search giant failed to come to license agreements with major music labels at the time, Music Beta is essentially a massive cloud storage hard drive.
