“I have never in 23 years ran across this!”That's how assistant Bristow, Oklahoma police chief Kendra Raney described what happened in the ladies restroom of Walmart on Tuesday. "A Walmart employee requesting an ambulance for a lady that was inside the women's bathroom either having a miscarriage, or having a baby," Raney said. That 911 call triggered emergency responses from multiple agencies, including police, fire and the Creek County Ambulance service. It sent paramedics racing to help.Raney described what first responders found, stating, "I understand the Walmart employees performed lifesaving measures and when the ambulance got there, they transported them both to a Tulsa Hospital."The Bristow Fire Department report shows it paramedics worked on the baby girl for 17 minutes. They gave her oxygen and cleared her airways. Finally, she took breaths on her own and made a weak cry.Why was the baby was born in the Walmart restroom? "Mom stated that she started having contractions about 2:30 in the morning that morning and she didn't think that they warranted a visit to the hospital," Raney explains. "She got up later, got her kids off to school and felt that she needed to use the restroom, so she stopped at the Walmart which the middle school's right across from the Walmart."Raney says the mother felt some pressure and then the baby came out. We asked how the mother and baby girl are doing now. Then she added, "Both are gonna make it."Raney said, the incident is still under investigation. Bristow police are not releasing the mother's name, or which hospital the mother and baby were taken to in Tulsa. She expects the investigation to be wrapped up early next week. This article was originally written by Cathy Tatom for KJRH. 1766

A family in Chicago has filed a lawsuit, claiming that the Chicago Police raided the wrong home during a 4-year-old's birthday party.Stephanie Bures, the plaintiff in the lawsuit, claims that officers had the wrong house during the Feb. 10 raid, claiming that the suspect sought by police had not lived there for five years. Bures claimed in the lawsuit that 17 officers raided the home during her son's birthday party. The lawsuit claims that officers pointed guns at the 4-year-old, and Bures' 7-year-old child.Chicago Police was unable to comment to NBC News on pending litigation. Bures' attorney, Al Hofeld Jr., held a news conference on Tuesday regarding the raid. He claimed that officers handcuffed the parents, shouted profanities and insults and smashed the child's birthday cake. "Hysterical, the children were terrified that they and their families were going to be shot," Hofeld said in a press release. "During the ensuring search, officers smashed TJ’s birthday cake, poured peroxide on his presents, trashed the basement unit, screamed profanity and insults at the families, unlawfully questioned the children in a separate room without the consent of their parents, and joked and laughed throughout the raid. No one was arrested or charged."Hofeld claimed that his office found the current address of search warrant’s suspect within 30 seconds. 1373

WASHINGTON, D.C. – They are three simple digits that could be the difference between life and death. A proposed three-digit number – 9-8-8 – is on the verge of becoming the new nationwide hotline for suicide prevention. “I think that shortening the number to three digits really has the opportunity to save so many lives,” said Alison Malmon, founder of Active Minds, a national non-profit focusing on mental health. “The prominence that this three-digit number will bring to suicide prevention is extraordinary.” For Malmon, a new suicide prevention hotline is personal. “As the survivor of my brother's suicide, it really means so much to me to know that lives will be saved through culture change and through bringing more prominence to the issues around suicide prevention that this three-digit number will bring,” she said. For years, the suicide prevention hotline has been a 10-digit 800-number: 1- 800 – 273 – TALK. Mental health experts say shortening it makes it easier to remember and could save lives in the process. “If we were in an emergency situation, we're stressed and it's hard for us to remember a lot of things,” said Charles Ingoglia, president of the National Council for Behavioral Health. “And so, I think the idea behind moving to a three-digit number related to suicide is to facilitate people being able to contact help easily and quickly.” Each year, more than 47,000 people in the U.S. die by suicide: that’s one person, nearly every 12 minutes. “If you look at where we are now the highest numbers of suicide we've seen since World War II,” said Colleen Creighton of the American Association of Suicidology. “So, clearly we need to change something we need to get something done and having a really easily accessible three-digit code is the way to go.” It’s a move welcomed by those forced to face a loved ones’ loss to suicide. “There's so much change on the horizon,” Malmon said. Beyond the number change, experts caution that there needs to be funding for local call centers around the country to take on any added call volume from the new number. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The number is 1- 800 – 273 – TALK (8255).
