NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV)-- National City is asking the public for input on the "Small Cells" roll-out plan in preparation of 5G speeds. While some are excited about lighting-fast internet, others are concerned about their health.Everyone is connected, everywhere, thanks to wireless technology. Traditionally, large cell towers placed around the city would have enough capacity and power to accommodate cellphone users. With the increased popularity of smartphones and social media, the FCC says 4G is not enough to demands. It is now the 5G age. The federal government is now requiring larger connectivity, with smaller infrastructure called "Small Cells.""We're looking to see community wants," Deputy City Attorney for National City Robby Contreras said. National City is asking for community input on how they should proceed with their "Small Cells" roll-out. "Small Cells" are little, low-powered wireless base stations, installed onto already existing traffic lights. They provide 5G speeds without new huge towers.The City of San Diego already began its installation of "Small Cells." Many of them can be seen along First Street downtown. At this point, National City has only a handful of Small Cells that were installed after a pre-existing agreement from a decade ago. Now they are considering placing many more around the city."We're trying to get a Master License Agreement," Contreras said. "And this agreement would lay out the terms and conditions that carriers like Verizon or AT&T would have to follow in locating small cells in our city."While many are thrilled about a future with faster connectivity, Susan Brinchman is fighting against the Small Cells roll out."I have a medical condition caused by radiation poisoning," Brinchman said. She is the Director of the Center for Electrosmog Prevention, a nonprofit organization out of La Mesa.10News communicated with Brinchman through a secure, wired internet connection via Skype. She does not own a cell phone because of her electro-sensitivity. Brinchman believes Small Cells for 5G is not safe, not just for sensitive individuals, but for everyone."It would bring us into close proximity to strong microwave radiation which is harmful to health," Brinchman said. She is asking National City residents to join her cause."A moratorium should be placed on it, and learn about it, and fight back and say no," Brinchman said. National City is ready to listen, whatever the input may be."We have to weigh that concern against the law. NASHVILLE, Mich. - A family with a passion with aviation decided to take their hobby on the road.Gino Lucci of Nashville, Mich. is a pilot, mechanic, and federal inspector of aviation. His passion prompted an idea when he was a kid."I always wanted to do one, since I was 12-years-old, and I just wanted to make an airplane out of a motor home," said Lucci. "The truck won't fly, but the airplane drives."Lucci named the RV The Fabulous Flamingo.To make his plans a reality, Lucci's son Giacinto tracked down a plane in Missouri. It had been deemed inoperable due to a tornado that rolled through the area. The plane was built in 1943 and used in South America by the Navy during the World War II era."It took us about four to six weeks to really sit down and say, 'Alright, I’ll sell it to you," Giacinto recalled.The family gutted the airplane but tried to keep as much of the original interior as possible. Some of the parts they removed were sent to France to restore a similar plane for a D-Day memorial.The RV is classified as a Class A motor home and is up to safety standards. NASA and SpaceX are preparing for a historic launch Sunday and a Cal Poly graduate will be at the controls in the cockpit. Victor Glover will pilot the NASA SpaceX Crew 1 mission to the International Space Station. (KGTV) The deals on Friday were not good enough for a pair of thieves.National City Police are looking for two men they believe held up a cellphone store on Black Friday.Police say two armed walked into a Verizon store on East Plaza Blvd around 11 a.m. brandishing guns.The men demanded the employees and customer put their faces on the on the ground while the two placed items in a bag.One witness says the thieves told them if they looked at their faces they would shoot them.At least 20 iPhones, 0 cash and the store managers gold chain were stolen for a total haul of roughly ,000 dollars.A suspect description has not been released but one of the thieves was reported having a a beard that jutted out from the bottom of his ski mask.A Verizon store in Lemon Grove was robbed recently by two men matching their description. 863
