MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — A prosecutor in the trial of an Iowa father whose infant son was found dead and maggot-infested in a baby swing last year has told a jury the child "died of diaper rash."Assistant Iowa Attorney General Coleman McAllister told jurors Tuesday that 4-month-old Sterling Koehn had been in the same diaper for nine to 14 days when his body was found in the swing Aug. 30, 2017, at his parents' Alta Vista apartment, the Courier reported .The baby's father, 29-year-old Zachary Paul Koehn, is charged with murder and child endangerment. The boy's mother, Cheyanne Harris, is also charged and faces a separate trial at a later date.McAllister said Tuesday in opening statements that the baby's heavily soiled diaper had attracted bugs that had laid eggs, which had hatched into maggots. The resulting diaper rash led to ruptured skin, and e.Coli bacteria set in."He died of diaper rash. That's right, diaper rash," McAllister said.A coroner's report showed the baby died of malnutrition, dehydration and the infection.In opening statements Tuesday, Koehn's attorney said the baby's death was a tragedy, but not a crime.McAllister denied the defense's claims, saying Koehn was an experienced parent. He noted that Koehn's 2-year-old daughter was also in the apartment and was healthy, and that Koehn had money to buy food and baby supplies. He stated Koehn was a drug user.Nurse and county rescue squad EMT Toni Friedrich testified Tuesday that she was the first to arrive at the apartment after Koehn called 911 to report the baby had died. Friedrich said Koehn showed no emotion when he led her to the dark, hot bedroom where the baby's body was.The baby's "eyes were open, and it was a blank stare," she said.Friedrich said when she touched the baby's chest, his clothing was crusty. (KGTV) - After five years of delays and construction, the Plunge Pool in Mission Beach is scheduled to re-open on June 1."There was a lot of I's to dot and T's to cross with this thing, so we've taken our time," explains Belmont Park General Manager Steve Thomas. "We've invested the capital to make sure that things are where we want them to be. It feels good to be involved in a project like that."In addition to rebuilding the pool, the new Plunge will include a state of the art fitness center, run by Fit Athletic Club.The pool, which opened in 1925, closed in 2014 in dire need of repairs. That process didn't begin until January of 2017 because of issues with the Coastal Commission and other government entities.Throughout construction, people in Mission Beach have been wondering when it will reopen while reminiscing of their time spent in the old Plunge."Our kids, we used to bring them here when they were little," says Sharon Delgadillo. She and her husband Henry walk by the Plunge while they exercise in Mission Beach and have stopped frequently to check on its progress. "It will be awesome that another generation can enjoy this pool too.""It's a piece of our history," says Mission Beach Town Council President Matthew Gardner. He says the management from Belmont Park and the Fit Athletic Club has done an excellent job at providing updates to the council at their monthly meetings. He was thrilled to hear they have an opening date set for June 1st."You better believe I'll be first in line to get a membership for the pool," says Gardner.The Fit is already selling memberships to the Club, which will include pool access. A manager says they're offering a /month special through the end of March.Meanwhile, Belmont Park management says the pool will have its own membership that people can buy if they don't want the full athletic club experience. Those will be sold as monthly or daily passes. Belmont Park is still working out the price points for that.Business owners around Mission Beach and Belmont Park also feel the pool will be a catalyst for more economic growth in the area. Gardner owns a beach rental store next to the pool and says he's already seen an increase of customers who ask about the pool."I built my rental shop where it is because of how much effort they put into the pool," he says.Belmont Park officials say the unique mix of a large pool near the beach will bring in locals and tourists."It's going to be right up there next to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo," says Thomas of how popular he thinks the Plunge will be when it re-opens. MILWAUKEE — What was supposed to be a girls trip to Atlanta with a Milwaukee mother and her five daughters turned into a nightmare for the Wenszell family. A man they never met was in the station as they waited for a train to arrive. “This man, agitated, talking to himself mumbling and next thing we know, ran over and pushed my wife she ended up falling onto the track,” said Jerry Wenszell, the husband and father of the family. After Susan Wenszell was pushed her daughter jumped onto the tracks and covered her mother with her body. But that left Katie Wenszell to take the brunt of the train. “Katie jumped down, tried to move Sue off the tracks and just got her in between the tracks and the train literally went over both of the top of them,” Jerry said. The train missed Susan. Katie was hit and dragged. She lost part of her foot, her shoulder was shattered, she punctured a lung and broke most of the bones in her face. “Most said had Katie not jumped down, Sue would have come home in a box,” Jerry said. The man who pushed Susan is now facing charges. But Jerry isn’t angry and relies on his faith. “No, actually I'm not. I actually prayed for the guy,” he said. Katie is now in critical condition after the incident in Atlanta over the weekend. She faces a long road to recovery, including the potential for more surgeries. Jerry says he’s had to stay in Milwaukee to take care of the family’s young children. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Katie's medical expenses.  1595
