SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Some shoe companies are doing their part to help the healthcare workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. Both Allbirds and Keen Footwear have donated thousands of pairs of shoes to hospital staff and others who are needed to work during this time of crisis. Allbirds says it distributed 0,000 worth of “Wool Runners” to those in the healthcare community after announcing the free shoes last Friday. Unfortunately, the company says its pledge to provide the free shoes uncovered a need beyond what they can fulfill on their own while ensuring they balance the needs of their employees. So, Allbirds is turning to the public to help them continue to give away shoes to those protecting our communities during this difficult time. The company is now offering a “buy-one-give-one” offer in the U.S.“As of today, and while supplies last, if you purchase a pair of Allbirds in the U.S., we will also split the cost of donating a pair of Wool Runners. Or if you’d like to simply donate a pair, we’ve created an option that allows you to do that too,” 1098
Seven passengers were taken to hospitals when a Hawaiian Airlines flight landed in Honolulu on Thursday morning with smoke in the cabin and cargo hold, officials said. The passengers had "smoke-related symptoms," Hawaiian Airlines said in a statement. The smoke buildup happened because oil was leaking "onto hot parts of the plane's engine and air conditioning pressurization system," according to a statement released by the airline, which blamed the leak on a failed seal.Daniel K. Inouye International Airport Fire Chief Glenn Mitchell described the passengers' injuries as "minor respiratory" in nature. The seven injured were five adults and two children, airline Chief Operating Officer Jon Snook said. The flight from Oakland, California, made its emergency landing around 11:30 a.m. HT. The other 177 passengers and the seven crew members were bused to the terminal. The smoke began filling the cabin 20 minutes before the plane's arrival, he said."We sincerely apologize to our passengers for this incident and thank them for their cooperation in the evacuation," the airline statement said.No oxygen masks were deployed to passengers. Snook said the crew didn't want to pump oxygen into the aircraft when there might be a fire. The crew donned smoke masks, he said. The crew deployed the plane's emergency slides for the evacuation, which officials said took between 30 and 45 seconds.Because halon was used in the cargo hold, it will take some time to get luggage back to the passengers, Snook said. Each passenger will have their flights comped and will get a voucher for a future flight. 1608

Rep. Rashida Tlaib shared a photo of an anonymous "hateful" note posted outside her congressional office that called for Rep. Ilhan Omar to stop "disgusting Jew hatred."The note, written on a blue sticky note and posted on the placard outside Tlaib's office in the Longworth House Office Building, read: "Rep Omar, Stop your disgusting Jew hatred. Your sign says 'Justice for all.' That means Jews too. Your Jihad against the Jews will fail."The note also included the words "Am Yisrael Chai," which translates to "the nation of Israel lives."Tlaib, who is the first Palestinian-American elected to Congress and, along with Omar, serves as one of two Muslim women in Congress, tweeted a photo of the note Tuesday night. The two congresswomen are close friends."This is the hateful rhetoric & bullying on my door today. Stop the fear mongering & blantant lies. Come here w/ the value that all beings deserve human rights, including Palestinians. (Omar) & I fight for equality & justice for all. There's nothing antisemitic about that!" Tlaib wrote in the tweet. The US Capitol Police did not respond to CNN's request for comment Wednesday. The note comes several weeks after Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, stirred controversy after she suggested money was behind politicians' support for Israel -- she later apologized -- and insinuated that pro-Israel groups were pushing "allegiance to a foreign country."The comments were criticized on both sides of the aisle and prompted the Democratic-led House to 1526
