SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An off-ramp connecting northbound Interstate 5 to westbound I-8 was closed Friday morning as officers reassessed the scene of a crash earlier this week.Just before 2 a.m. Monday, a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-8 from Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol. The Jetta then entered northbound I-5 in the wrong direction and collided with a Toyota Camry.An SUV then slammed into the rear end of the Camry, CHP said this week. The driver of the Jetta, identified as Justin Callahan, died at the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Orange County-based company believes it could change the current healthcare landscape with one-hour COVID-19 testing.According to officials at Fluxergy, initial tests by researchers using a synthetic SARS-CoV-2 virus suggest this system has the potential to change the landscape for point-of-care diagnostic testing for COVID-19. It would dramatically reduce the time it takes to get results and deliver those results directly at the patient’s bedside. The company said it could be able to identify the virus in as little as 45 minutes."The typical laboratory tests that you do in a central lab or the doctor's office, you collect the sample and get that sent out to a central lab," said Fluxergy President Tej Patel. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An autopsy performed on the teenager known as McSkillet is providing details about his mental state before he crashed his McLaren on Interstate 805 in San Diego, killing a mother and daughter.Trevor Heitmann, 18, died on August 23 when he drove the wrong way on the freeway in University City at 100 miles an hour. Heitmann’s sports car crashed into an SUV, killing Aileen Pizarro, 43, and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana. The California Highway Patrol reported that video of the impact shows Heitmann did not attempt to swerve before hitting the SUV.The San Diego County Medical Examiner said Heitmann suffered 11 types of blunt force injuries in the crash. Toxicology tests did not detect any alcohol or common drugs, doctors said. Heitmann's death was ruled accidental by officials. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A staff member at West Hills High School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Grossmont Union High School District.The families of 23 students in classes affected by the positive test have been notified and will not participate in in-person classes for 14 days, according to GUHSD PIO Catherine Martin.Those students will continue their instruction virtually during that time, Martin added. All other West Hills students will continue their in-person or distance learning classes as scheduled.In a letter to parents, West Hills High principal Robin Ballarin said after reviewing the positive test with public health officials, there is no need to close the school for in-person learning."We have cleaned and disinfected, as appropriate, and our campus has been deemed safe for occupancy. We understand that this information is concerning. Staff members and students who may have come into close contact with the individual will be directly contacted by San Diego County Public Health with further instructions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A shipment from Mexico containing over 200 non-FDA approved COVID-19 test kits was seized at San Diego International Airport, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced Wednesday.CBP officials said the shipment of two packages arrived at the airport on Dec. 1 from a flight out of Mexico. In a news release, officials said the shipment was manifested as “plastic card” and then taken for inspection.Officers found 251 COVID-19 test kits inside the packages, and they were then evaluated by FDA officials.An inspection by the FDA found the kits were misbranded, and the shipment “did not have an FDA Emergency Use Authorization and violated the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.”The kits, with a domestic value of ,000, were seized by CBP officers, with Homeland Security notified of the shipment.CBP San Diego Director of Field Operations Anne Maricich said, “I am proud of how vigilant our officers are when it comes to protecting our communities, they stopped the entry of unauthorized, unproven and potentially unsafe goods into the United States.
