SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The North County Transit District will temporarily reduce service for its Coaster commuter trains starting Monday until further notice amid a drop in ridership tied to the coronavirus outbreak.Weekday train service will be reduced by about 50%, particularly around the noon hour, when several northbound and southbound trains will be suspended. Last year, they reported 717 DUI arrests and 11 fatalities.The DUI arrests are only those made by CHP officers, while fatality statistics are for all law enforcement agencies.Statewide, 13 vehicle occupants were killed in CHP jurisdiction, six without safety belts. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego International Airport broke its passenger traffic record for the fifth consecutive year, serving roughly 24 million passengers in 2018, the Airport Authority announced Friday.The total -- up nearly 10 percent over last year -- included one million international passengers, a 19 percent jump from 2017, according to the Airport Authority, which credited several airlines' expanded service and airport-wide traffic increases for the new record.``This is a tremendous time of growth for not only SAN but the entire San Diego region,'' said Kim Becker, the airport's president and CEO. ``With more people choosing San Diego as their destination of choice, we are looking ahead at projects to accommodate this trend and provide the world-class airport experience our customers and community deserve.''Airlines servicing the airport added 16 new routes throughout the year and 15 of the airport's 17 airlines saw overall traffic increases.According to the Airport Authority, Southwest Airlines added 794,401 passengers from 2017 to 2018, the most of any airline flying out of San Diego. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- The first woman to assume command of a U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier has been assigned command of the San Diego-based USS Abraham Lincoln, the Navy announced Wednesday.Capt. Amy Bauernschmidt will lead one of the Navy's 11 nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, after previously serving as the ship's executive officer from September 2016 to January 2019.That post was also historic, as she was the first woman to serve as second-in-command aboard an aircraft carrier, according to the Navy.Bauernschmidt is slated to take command of USS Abraham Lincoln this summer."I am incredibly honored and humbled to be selected," she said of her assignment. ``I love leading sailors and I take that responsibility extremely seriously."The Milwaukee native was part of the first graduating class in which women were allowed to serve aboard combatant ships and aircraft when she graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May 1994.She was designated as a naval aviator in 1996 and has served with several helicopter squadrons throughout her career. 1074

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Legion Major League Rugby team announced Tuesday that it released recently signed player Steffon Armitage in the wake of his conviction for sexually assaulting a woman in France.On Monday, a French court found Armitage guilty of groping a woman's breasts outside a bar last year in the town of Pau, where he was playing at the time of the assault. Armitage, 34, admitted he had also been drinking heavily that night.The court handed Armitage a suspended prison sentence and ordered him to compensate the victim with 5,000 euros, roughly ,500 in U.S. dollars.The Legion signed Armitage in July.
