SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police spent several hours Sunday trying to talk a man down after he climbed Belmont Park's Giant Dipper roller coaster and refused to come down.Police said officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel were called just before 1:30 p.m. to reports of an 18-year-old male who had climbed the amusement park's fence and up to the top of the coaster. SDPD's Psychiatric Emergency Response Team spent several hours trying to talk the man down.The man came down from the roller coaster around 7:45 p.m., before grabbing a tarp and making his way back up. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., he crossed over to a nearby roof. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego students have a new way to report claims of physical or sexual abuse in school.Thursday, District Attorney Summer Stephan announced the creation of a new, online reporting system for suspected abuse. She also announced the creation of the Student Safety in School Systems Task Force."It's critically important that these reports don't fall through the cracks," Stephan says. They fear the claims won't be taken seriously, or the allegations could be covered up. The new online system gives the students a more secure feeling that their claims will be investigated.The task force will vet and review every submission and follow up with the appropriate law enforcement agency. They will also guide the person facing the suspected abuse to find resources and other available services for help.This will not replace the responsibility of mandated reporters within schools, Stephan says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some late-night fun is heading to the San Diego Zoo, for the park's "Nighttime Zoo" festivities this summer.The special after-hours celebration runs June 16 - Sept. 2, keeping the zoo's gates open until 8 p.m. for live music, performances, and special animal encounters.Guests can check out trampoline acrobatics, traditional music and dance at Africa Rocks, the roving Chameleons band, or the Jambo! parade on Front Street. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Six people inside a minivan that drove down a flooded road near Fashion Valley mall were rescued Friday, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue official. Avenida del Rio, a popular exit route for the mall south of Friars Road, was closed Thursday and Friday due to rising water levels in the San Diego River. A lifeguard river rescue crew was nearby, along with fire trucks. No one was hurt, fire officials said.Police say the car was driven by a rideshare driver who had picked up five women at the mall who were all visiting from out of the country.There are barriers on the south side of Fashion Valley mall indicating the road is closed. 854

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Senior citizens in Chula Vista lit up the runway at St. Paul's Plaza, a senior living community.It was the center's first fashion show and eight residents were transformed into models. Each had makeup, hair, and wardrobe provided thanks to Macy's. “Today’s fashion show is all about friendships," said Mary Johnson with the community outreach team. "Friendships are just as important as taking good care of yourself, exercising, and good nutrition. As we get older friendships get even more important."Ladies who modeled said the day made them feel special and confident. “A lot of people when they get to be our age don’t want to do anything different.
