ONTARIO, Calif. (AP) — An infant and her teenage sister found dead at their California home are believed to have been killed by their mother, who left two suicide notes and was unresponsive in a hospital Wednesday, police said. The victims, 4 months and 14 years old, were found Tuesday in Ontario, east of Los Angeles, by their father when he returned home from work.Among the evidence is a "suicide note by the mother indicating that she intended to kill the children and to kill herself," police Sgt. Bill Russell told reporters. No details of the mother's medical condition were released, but Russell said she had been unable to provide a statement. No charges had been filed, and Russell said her name would not be released until investigators speak to her.Details of the suicide notes were not released but Russell said there was "a clear indication of what her intention was.""We do know that the mother was dealing with depression prior to the incident and had dealt with that in the past," he said. How the children were killed was still being determined by the coroner."There was a struggle at the scene which may have played a factor in the deaths," Russell said. The sergeant said the father called police when he discovered the deaths and was cooperative.Asked how the father was handling the situation, Russell said, "It's a difficult time, as you can imagine. It's a horrible tragedy."San Diego Crisis Hotline888-724-7240 1439

OLATHE, Kan. — Court documents released Monday say a Johnson County, Kansas mom was nearly successful in killing at least two of her children last month.Therese Roever faces three counts of attempted capital murder for allegedly drugging her three children on February 19.It wasn’t until her ex-husband arrived to pick up the kids that anyone knew something was wrong.Court documents indicate the ex-husband tried to get into the house for more than an hour but Roever did not open the door or answer the phone. When Roever finally let the ex-husband inside, he found his ex-wife “drugged and groggy.”First responders arrived to find the couple’s 7-year-old daughter on a bed not responding. Their 5-year-old initially got up from the bed but then stumbled to the ground. A third child, 7, was found in the bathroom crying. While the kids were en-route to the hospital, paramedics used Narcan – a drug commonly used to reduce the symptoms of opioid overdose – on two of the kids.Doctors told investigators that had police not arrived when they did, two of the children would have died.Roever remains in the Johnson County Jail on a million bond. She’s scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on April 20. 1259

One group is putting a unique twist on storytime, with the hopes of inspiring inclusion. The Salami Sisters don’t usually perform during the day. With full hair, makeup and dresses, the two started reading to children about six months ago at libraries. The stories read have themes about love, compassion and inclusion. The program is called Drag Queen Story Hour.Jonathan Hamilt brought the program to New York from San Francisco, and it has spread across the country.“It's one of the most attended story hours of our libraries,” says Hamilt. “Every time we go to a branch, librarians are like, ‘Wow! This has exceeded the number of any other program that we've had.’”As you might expect, Hamilt says the children come with questions, asking about their hair and real name. Some questions are more challenging than others.“Are you a boy or are you a girl? Why do you have a man's voice or why do you wear a dress?” says Hamilt of the questions the children ask.Hamilt says every answer and every story furthers their mission to instill tolerance and acceptance of everyone, and it's a message the parents are embracing.“I think it's very important to have diversity in kids programming, especially since a lot of drag shows aren't super kid-friendly,” says parent Maggie Beaumont.“Everybody accepts diversity, and I want my kid to experience it,” says another parent, Tomoko Shiina. “But at the same time, I'm also empowered by the atmosphere, as a parent and as a woman, as a person.”The Drag Queen Story Hour is not only a new perspective of storytime, but for many, it’s creating a new perspective of the world beyond it. 1644

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - An Oceanside man says his dog is healing from a close encounter with a coyote that was caught on his doorbell camera. CC, a 13-year-old Maltipoo, was attacked by the coyote Wednesday about 9 p.m. at her home on Morgan Creek Way. “Thinking I’m never going to see her again,” said Joe Vines Jr., CC’s owner. Video from the Ring camera shows CC scurrying into the front yard as Vines locks his door. He was about to put CC in the car to run errands when he heard her cry for help. Vines turned around to find CC in the coyote’s jaws. CC had several deep bites. She suffered two broken ribs and now has breathing problems. Vines will keep a closer eye on his dog from now on. The Helen Woodward Animal Center said it has been receiving more reports of coyote attacks than ever before. They point to factors like wildfires that destroyed habitats, seasonal drought, and housing projects. 1345
