SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters responded Tuesday afternoon after a brush fire broke out near Scripps Mercy Hospital Tuesday afternoon. According to fire crews, the fire broke near northbound SR-163 and Washington Street. Seven records were set, including:Escondido: 111 degrees (old record was 108 in 1984)Ramona: 112 degrees (old record was 102 in 2006)Alpine: 113 degrees (old record was 110 in 1984)El Cajon: 114 degrees (old record was 107 in 1984)Palomar Mountain: 97 degrees (old record was 96 in 1955)Campo: 108 degrees (old record was 104 in 1955)Borrego Springs: 117 degrees (old record was 113 in 1989)Poway unofficially set an all-time record of 113 degrees, but it falls out of the National Weather Services 30-year period of record.Temperatures across the county on Saturday were forecasted to hit as high as 122 while many coastal areas could see high 90s.Saturday into Sunday, overnight temperatures along the coast, inland, and mountain areas will hover in the 70s most of the night, and 90s and 80s in the deserts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of Clairemont neighbors attended a public hearing Wednesday to learn why their neighborhood was picked for a new homeless housing project.A developer wants to convert former office space on 5858 Mt. Alifan Drive into roughly 50 apartments for the homeless. The location is near the Vons shopping plaza.“It’s just not acceptable. I’m not against homeless shelters by any means but this is not the proper location,” said Mark Bromley. He believes the site is too close to homes and schools.San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate said the developer has not yet applied for a permit to start the project. Cate told 10News he can’t give his opinion on the project in case the issue goes before the Council.Organizers shut down the planned open house after more than 200 people attended due to possible fire code violations given the size of the crowd.Another informational meeting is tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday at a larger location. 973

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Four Democrats running to be governor of California faced off in a debate in San Diego Thursday night.The San Diego County Democratic Party hosted the debate between John Chaing, Delaine Eastin, Gavin Newsom and Antonio Villaraigosa.The Democratic Convention is set to begin Friday. The candidates were asked a wide range of questions from fixing the tax system to housing and small business.A topic that led the charge was the topic of gun control. All candidates said they support stricter gun laws.A poll released two weeks ago shows Newsom leading Villaraigosa 23 to 21 percent.
