DENVER — Footage from a Ring Bell camera shows a runaway UPS truck careening backward down a street in a Denver neighborhood, and smashing into several parked vehicles.Erika Gaum said she was in her front yard with her young son cleaning out flowerbeds a few minutes before the crash happened on Dec. 2."I had just gone in to put him down for his nap," she said. "About 10 minutes later, I heard this massive explosion."Gaum said she peeked out the front door and saw a UPS truck pushed up against the neighbor's cars.Moments later, another neighbor came out and told her the UPS truck had sideswiped the Gaum's tow truck and trailer, too."After it hit the trailer, it kind of skidded along and then hit the fender and ripped the tire and bent the rim," she said.Gaum added that the impact knocked out rivets, busted a mirror, flattened two tires and knocked out a headlight.The UPS truck then slammed into three parked cars, one of them a Ford Taurus.Gabriela Agustin-Sanchez said her dad had put a lot of hard work and hard-earned cash into fixing up the Taurus."Cars are his passion. He's always working on cars, but that one was one of his most prized possessions, and he was very proud of it," she said.The back of that Taurus is now a crumpled heap of metal, rubber and plastic.According to the police report, the UPS driver, 21-year old Sagar Garung, said he was stopped to make a delivery and when he jumped back in and attempted to start the truck, it failed to start."Then it jumped out of gear and traveled southbound in reverse, at an unknown rate of speed, and collided with (Gaum's truck and the three cars,)" the report stated.Gaum said she and her husband own an auto shop."We're heading into the holidays and this is our work truck, so we kind of need some action," she said.Gaum added that she reached out to UPS several days in a row, to ask about the status of their damage claim, and each time was told "somebody will contact you by the end of the day.""That has yet to happen," she said.KMGH reached out to UPS to ask if there was an issue with the brakes, if the driver is still working for UPS, if there was another person on board the UPS truck, why the delay in reaching out to the victims and if UPS will be taking care of the damage.Matthew O'Connor, the senior manager of media relations, sent an email stating: "We’re thankful that everyone is safe. UPS’s highest priority is the safety of our employees and the communities we serve. We’re investigating the situation, cooperating with the responding authorities on their investigation, and will respond accordingly."Garung was issued a citation for operating an unsafe vehicle.Gaum said with everything that has happened in 2020, she's grateful no one was injured in the crash.Still, she hopes UPS responds sooner, rather than later."Call me UPS. Las Vegas even has its own museum devoted to the iconic neon of its heyday.It was a dying business, or so it seemed. Friedman says smaller scale, specialty signs are now more popular than ever.  Smaller businesses want to craft a unique sign that stands out and might even be Instagram-worthy.“For us, we’ve never made more neon, and we still can’t make it fast enough, Friedman says.“I think because there's a fresh appreciation of artisanal goods, and people with this instant gratification are appreciating slow process, handmade items, and neon is clearly one of those.”The process can take days to craft just one neon sign.Thomas Rinaldi, a historian who's catalogued some of New York’s most iconic neon signs, says the abundance of new neon is real."People have really kind of seized, maybe more than ever in the last few years, on the kind of unique aesthetic of these exposed tube neon signs,” Rinaldi says. “And it’s become enormously desirable for restaurants, retail environments."However, Rinaldi acknowledges that, in terms of glass blowers still working in neon today, there are fewer of them. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - For the past five days, five shark sightings have been reported off North San Diego County beaches, Del Mar lifeguards tell 10News. A juvenile shark, about 5 feet long, was spotted Friday afternoon. It did not show signs of aggressive behavior, lifeguards said. The water was not cleared of swimmers and surfers. Del Mar’s shark sightings started Monday and have continued every day this week. Sighting locations include 15th and 29th streets, City of Del Mar officials reported. Drew Pierce, who went to Del Mar to avoid triple-digit heat in Temecula, was in the water Wednesday when he saw several 3-4 foot long sharks. They tend to eat smaller fish and pose no threat to people, Dewar said. Dewar recommends avoiding beaches at dusk and dawn, avoiding river mouths, and monitoring shark warning signs. Farther up the coast, two local surfers spotted multiple sharks near El Portal Beach in San Clemente Friday afternoon, City News Service reported. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV)- After the recent horse deaths at the Del Mar Racetrack, a small group of animal activists is proposing a ban on horse racing. Local supporters of the track are saying "no." Animal rights activists were set to speak at the California Horse Racing Board meeting Thursday morning when things got heated between both sides before the session started. "We are trying to initiate a ban on horse racing, not just in California but in this country," says animal rights activist Ellen Ericksen. Ericksen says she's concerned about the safety of the animals who spend most of their time racing. "Horses are dying left and right."Supporters of the horse racing industry say the animals are being taken care of. "We take every precaution we can with these horses because we love them," says Jockey Aaron Gryder. Gryder has been a jockey at the Del Mar Racetrack for the past 32 years. "It's not our job; it's our passion."This past summer, the Del Mar Racetrack implemented new protocols to ensure horse safety, like having veterinarians on the track during every workout. "We want to make sure when the horses step out on the racetrack they are 100% in great condition," says Gryder.Supporters also say doing away with horse racing could leave a lot of people without a job. "They have plenty of time to start looking for other employment," says Ericksen. "They have plenty of time to get re-trained."A statement sent to 10News from the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club says: "Del Mar has implemented an unprecedented series of safety and welfare measures over the last several years and, while we always will strive to do better, these reforms are working. Delta gained hurricane strength Monday evening, packing top winds of 80 MPH as of 11 p.m. ET as it churns in the Caribbean Sea, heading north. The rapidly-strengthening tropical storm currently in the Caribbean Sea is moving north, and could strike the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico as a major hurricane on Wednesday.While the Yucatan Peninsula could be in the path of Delta, there is growing concern for the Gulf Coast. The National Hurricane Center has areas from Louisiana to the western tip of the Florida panhandle in the path of Delta. The tropical storm is expected to come ashore on Friday as a hurricane. Delta became the 25th named storm on Monday in what has been an extremely active 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.Louisiana has taken the brunt of the impact of the 2020 Hurricane season. Hurricanes Marco and Laura have already made landfall in the state, causing inland flooding and significant damage along the coast. Hurricane Sally also did significant damage nearby Gulf Shores, Alabama, when it made landfall in September.A second tropical storm, Gamma, is currently churning in the Gulf of Mexico.
