(KGTV) - California Highway Patrol officers opened fire, fatally shooting a suspect after a chase that began in Orange County ended in Chula Vista, the agency said.The chase started just before midnight when, for an unknown reason, Santa Ana Police attempted a traffic stop.The pursuit continued through San Diego County until coming to an end near I-805 south and East Orange Avenue around 1:30 a.m.At some point, CHP says officers opened fire on the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. CHP did not say whether the driver was armed or whether there was anyone else in the vehicle.No CHP officers were hit, the agency confirmed. CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. – A black bear is thanking its lucky stars that a Wisconsin family was in the right place at the right time.After a day of fishing on Sunday, Tricia Hurt told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she, her husband and their son were returning to a dock on Marsh-Miller Lake when they spotted something strange in the water.As the family approached, they realized it was a young bear that was struggling to swim because it had a cheese ball container stuck around its head.They felt compelled to help free the bear from the tub, worrying that if they didn’t, it wouldn’t be able to make it back to short safely.So, Tricia says her son Brady maneuvered their boat while her husband leaned into the water to tug on the container. It took multiple passes, but they eventually managed to free the animal from the plastic. Tricia says the bear then swam back to shore.The family believes that if they had not helped the bear, it may have not made it to shore, because it was breathing heavily and the container had filled with water.Tricia documented their rescue efforts on video and posted it online. As of Tuesday morning, her Facebook post has been shared more than 18,000 times.The family says the bear had actually been spotted several times over the past few days and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources had been looking for it, but without any luck. 1389

(CNS) -- Search warrants served at five illegal marijuana dispensaries in Chula Vista, Lakeside and Spring Valley resulted in the arrests of six people on a variety of charges and the seizure of .1 million and 3,000 pounds of marijuana and other drugs.Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department served the warrants at the dispensaries, as well as at homes in Jamul and San Diego and at a storage facility in Spring Valley, according to Sgt. (KGTV) — Chula Vista's sprawling University and Innovation District site was presented to California State University consultants this week as a possible location for a future campus.Eric Crockett, Chula Vista's economic development director, says consultants provided city, business, and education leaders with "a lot of feedback" during discussions about the region's possibilities."Everybody was very supportive, everyone knows there’s a need for higher education," Crockett said. "South Bay has a need for higher education."Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas added that the meeting showed "pretty significant movement" for the city's planned University and Innovation District, which includes more than 500 acres of availability for a campus."I think is the best argument in our favor is that we're in a bi-national region and that this is a huge economic driver in the State of California," Salas said. Chula Vista laid all of those qualities on the table."We’re trying not to create a drain on the state or take money from other universities," Crockett said. "When we did our planning document, it also contains for-profit uses."In addition to Chula Vista's land availability, the area is home to Southwestern College and situated near several other community colleges, including San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, Cuyamaca College, and Grossmont College.Salas added that the city has continued talks with San Marcos-based Saint Katherine College for 10-acres of the site. Salas said that university could potentially start off the site's development and work alongside the CSU development, adding more appeal for CSU.Consultants will continue to meet with leaders from each community to learn how a potential campus could best serve the state's higher education needs. Those meetings will consider the area's relationship with community colleges, benefit to the region, land availability, and potential enrollment.Consultants developing the feasibility study are working on behalf of CSU to keep the process objective, Uhlenkamp says.
