SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man involved in a reported domestic violence incident in City Heights early Wednesday morning made his way onto the roof of a building and refused to come down, prompting a standoff with San Diego police.According to SDPD officials, officers responded to a domestic violence-related call at around 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 4100 block of Wilson Avenue. Police say the incident involved a man and his girlfriend, and the man allegedly destroyed a phone line or cell phone.When officers arrived, they spotted the man in the incident and tried to get him to surrender, but he ran away.With police in pursuit, the man climbed onto the roof of a home on 35th Street. Officers surrounded the home, but when police placed a ladder for the man to come down, he grabbed the ladder and pulled it onto the roof with him.The man used the ladder to help him cross onto the roof of a two-story apartment building in the 4000 block of 35th Street.As police negotiators tried to get the man to come down, he reportedly threatened officers with makeshift weapons and threw objects at emergency responders.After nearly 19 hours, the man was taken into custody just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. 1211

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized after being shot as he sat in his car at a Southcrest park, San Diego police said.The incident happened just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of Newton Avenue, according to police.The 26-year-old victim and a 19-year-old man were sitting in a BMW when two men walked up to the car. Police said the two men pounded on the car’s windows before they opened fire.The victim was shot in the left thigh and left wrist, police said. The 19-year-old was not hurt.The victim drove the bullet-riddled BMW away from the park and called 911 to report the shooting. Police made contact with the BMW on National Avenue and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.According to police, the suspected shooters are believed to have fled the park in a white pickup truck. Twelve shell casings were recovered at the scene, police added.Descriptions of the two suspected shooters were not immediately available. 984

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local marine is recovering from COVID-19 while deployed overseas.Jennifer Dulaney says her husband, Kyle, was deployed in April and is serving at a base in Okinawa. He tested for COVID-19 earlier this month.“My husband called me on a Monday morning as I was getting ready for work and said he felt like he was getting symptoms,” Jennifer said.Kyle got worse and was eventually sent to the ICU. His condition began to worsen that he qualified for the Remdesivir. It was described as an experimental drug, and doctors needed Jennifer’s permission to administer it to Kyle.Jennifer is a nurse and knew that COVD-19 could be very severe.“I know where COVID can go, they can spiral downwards real fast,” she said, “so for me, the benefits outweighed the risk.”Jennifer said he began to show improvement on the fifth day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A hiker who thought he discovered a puppy along a San Diego trail in March actually ended up taking in a coyote pup.San Diego Humane Society said the man was walking his dog on March 22 in Tierrasanta when he thought he had discovered an abandoned puppy. He ended up bringing the animal home and calling the Humane Society to report his discovery.Humane Law Enforcement found that the puppy wasn't a pooch at all, but actuallyin fact a coyote pup.RELATED: Rattlesnake season officially begins in SoCalOfficers brought the little coyote to the society's Project Wildlife, which works to rehabilitate wildlife for release back into the wild.
