A melee marred the end of Thursday's NFL game that saw the Cleveland Browns defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-7, in a battle between two traditional rivals. With just eight seconds remaining, Browns defender Myles Garrett ripped the helmet off of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph. Garrett then used the helmet to strike Rudolph. This came as players from both the Browns and Steelers were exchanging punches and shoves. The incident began when Rudolph made a short pass while Garrett was attempting a sack. As the two players were on the ground, it appeared Rudolph may have been either trying to remove Garrett's helmet, or had his hand stuck in Garrett's helmet. Then Garrett pulled Rudolph's lid off, and Rudolph responded by getting into a shoving match with Garrett. That is when Garrett struck Rudolph in the head with Rudolph's helmet. In a postgame interview with Fox Sports' Erin Andrews, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield called Garrett's actions inexcusable, and predicted that Garrett would be suspended. "I don't care rivalry or not, we can't do that," Mayfield said. "That is just endangering the other team."Garrett himself called his actions "foolish.""I shouldn't allow myself to slip like that. It's out of character," Garrett said.Browns QB Baker Mayfield joined 1296

An African-American attorney for Maryland Legal Aid is accusing an officer with the Harford County Sheriff's office of detaining and questioning him after he appeared in court to represent his client.According to the attorneys defending Rashad James, James was getting an expungement for his absent client at the Harford County District Court when an officer with the Harford County Sheriff's Office suspected James was the client. They say James was acknowledged by the judge as the counsel representing the client and was granted the expungement petition. But when he was leaving the courtroom, he was stopped by the officer who addressed him using the client's name. They say James told the officer that he was not the client, but that he was his attorney. The officer then instructed James to show his ID, which James produced as evidence to support his identity. They say the officer did not accept his ID as proof and took him to an interview room where he was questioned for about ten minutes. The officer let him go after being questioned. An attorney representing James believes that if he was white, the officer would not have doubted that he was an attorney, would not have questioned his identity and would not have detained him after seeing his driver’s license.“There is no plausible explanation other than racial bias,” said Andrew D. Freeman of Brown, Goldstein & Levy, an attorney for James. The law firm refers to the incident as 1462

Airbnb is taking more steps to crack down on parties and nuisance guests in the wake of a Halloween shooting at an Airbnb rental in a San Francisco suburb where five people were killed. The company said Thursday it’s banning “open invite” parties at all of its accommodations. Those are parties open to anyone and advertised on social media, for example.Airbnb says boutique hotels and professional event venues will be exempt from the new rule. The San Francisco-based company is also banning large parties at apartment buildings and condos.“This policy does not impact parties that are authorized by hosts and convened respectfully by guests,” the company said in a news release. “Instead, our goal with this new policy is to address the small number of guests who act irresponsibly and those rare hosts whose homes become persistent neighborhood nuisances.”Airbnb says it’s in the process of identifying listings globally that may be violating the party house ban, including accommodations in Los Angeles, Miami Beach, London and Montreal. The company says it’s asking hosts to update their listings to comply with the ’’open invite” ban.Airbnb says it’s in the process of identifying listings globally that may be violating the party house ban, including accommodations in Los Angeles, Miami Beach, London and Montreal. A Philadelphia nonprofit group said it will open the nation’s first supervised injection site next week to combat overdose deaths after a federal judge rejected Justice Department efforts to block the plan.U.S. District Judge Gerald McHugh, in a final ruling Tuesday, said the Safehouse proposal doesn’t violate federal drug laws because the intent is to save lives, not encourage drug use. “We are grateful that the court has once again found that saving lives is not a crime,” Safehouse board member Ronda Goldfein said Tuesday. “We see a great need in South Philly and plan to open there next week.”Organizers are set to announce details on the opening, first reported by 687
