The Scottish Parliament voted on Tuesday to unanimously approve a bill that would provide free feminine hygiene products to the public. The bill says products that are disposable, such as tampons and wipes, will be available to the public for free.The legislation, titled SP Bill 45A, spells out that local authorities ensure “period products” be obtainable free of charge to all persons who need them; education providers make period products obtainable for free for students; and that period products be available for free in public buildings.The legislation points out that Scotland is the first nation in the world to implement such a law, so it is unknown what the cost might be to the government.The Scottish government estimates there are nearly 1.6 million women of menstruation age in Scotland.“Thank you to everyone who has campaigned for period dignity and to my MSP colleagues for backing the Bill tonight. The travel industry has taken a major hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. From hotels to airlines, the industry saw a massive dip in business as people started canceling their upcoming trips. Instead, it appears people are taking their summer vacations outdoors."We had a lot of cancelations early on so starting in March, April and May we're heavily affected by cancelations but now that states are opening back up and travel’s resuming, our bookings are outpacing our cancelation seven fold," says Toby O'Rourke, the CEO of Kampgrounds of America. We’re breaking records all over the place in terms of bookings, growth. We had our best booking day on record last week that was up 300% year over year for just that day," says Jennifer Young, co-founder of Outdoorsy.com.Outdoorsy says recreational vehicles allow people to control their own environments."It's a standalone vehicle that you control where you buy your food, where it goes, how it stays in your refrigerator. Same with your bathrooms. So you’re cleaning and washing and showering - it's all self-contained in where you want to stay. You pick your location and destination," says Young.Plus both Outdoorsy and KOA have developed new safety guidance for campgrounds and RV renters amid COVID-19 which include proper sanitation, personal protective equipment and more."I definitely think once somebody rents an outdoorsy vehicle or camper van I’m pretty sure they’ll be hooked," says Young.KOA's O'Rourke advises people to first check camping websites and book ahead whenever possible. That shatters the previous record of 102,000 cases that were reported on Wednesday.Johns Hopkins reports that more than 1,200 people died of the virus in the U.S. on Thursday, the highest death total since Sept. 15. The highest daily death total throughout the pandemic occurred on April 15, when 2,600 people died.According to Johns Hopkins, COVID-19 is currently spreading faster in the U.S. than it is anywhere else in the world. The U.S. has recorded an average of about 80,000 new cases of COVID-19 in the last seven days; the country with the second-highest rate of new cases is India, with an average of about 45,000 new cases of the virus each day.Health officials warn that the U.S. is entering what could be the most dangerous and deadly period of the pandemic, as colder weather forces social gatherings indoors, where the virus is more easily spread.Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 9,606,369 cases reported in the US, 234,911 being fatal.
