BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the ruling United Russia Party met Tuesday to exchange views on the international financial crisis.     "This is the first official and high-level dialogue between the Chinese and Russian ruling parties," said Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee of his meeting with United Russia Party's council presidium secretary Vyacheslav Volodin.     Wang and Volodin signed an agreement on party-to-party cooperation on later Tuesday. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the signing ceremony.     Xi hailed the Sino-Russian relationship when meeting with Volodin before the ceremony, saying that China would work with Russia to promote stable and healthy growth of the ties, in a bid to benefit the two nations and peoples. UNITED NATIONS, May 15 (Xinhua) -- China voiced its willingness to further strengthen cooperation with the United Nations on Friday and support the world body to play a bigger role in addressing the global issues.     Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei made the statement while meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. He also spoke highly of the efforts by the secretary-general to promote all the works of the United Nations.     China backs the efforts to promote the reform of the UN Security Council in order to further improve the UN's ability to deal with all kinds of global threats and challenges in order to enable the United Nations to carry out its obligations under the UN Charter more effectively, He said.     Comprehensive and patient consultations should be made on the reform of the United Nations, and an extensive consensus on the issue should be reached on the basis of taking the interests and concerns of all parties concerned into consideration, he said.     Against a backdrop of the international financial crisis, the United Nations should increase its attention to and investment into the field of development and try its best to mitigate the negative impact of such a crisis on the development countries, He said.     Meanwhile, Ban said that he appreciates China's important role in maintaining the peace and promoting common development in the world.     The world today is facing all kinds of complicated and grave challenges, such as the financial crisis and the climate change, these challenges should be jointly tackled by all countries, Ban said.     The United Nations hopes to see China's bigger role in the world in the future, the secretary-general said. 

BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China and Kuwait signed five agreements here on Sunday in an effort to further the bilateral relations to a higher level.     The agreements covered fields of energy, finance, telecommunication, transportation and education, according a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. However, the press release does not give details about the agreements, only emphasizing they are among the positive steps to push foreword the bilateral relations.     Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah witnessed the signing ceremony after they conferred on the bilateral ties and other issues of common concern. WASHINGTON, April 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Tuesday that the prosperity of the American economy needs the rest of the world to recover.     "The rest of the world needs the U.S. economy and financial system to recover in order for it to revive," said Geithner in remarks to the Economic Club of Washington. "We remain at the center of global economic activity with financial and trade ties to every region of the globe."     "Just as importantly, we need the rest of the world to recover if we are to prosper again here at home," the Treasury chief said.     "Before the crisis, U.S. exports were among our economy's fastest-growing sectors, accounting for more than 6 million American jobs, or about 5 percent of total private sector employment in the U.S. Now, they are one of its fastest-shrinking," he stated.     He called for global cooperation to cope with the current crisis, which he said was "the most severe crisis in generations."     "As a consequence, the community of nations must work together -- and that work has already begun -- to revive economies around the world and to lay the groundwork for a new, more stable and more sustainable pattern of growth in the future," he said.

BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has allocated more than 126 million yuan (about 18.4 U.S. dollars) for disaster relief in six worst rainstorm-hit provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities in south China, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said here Sunday.     The six provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities include Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou and Chongqing.     A total of 5,200 tents were also sent to Guangxi, Jiangxi and Hunan to provide shelter for the people displaced there, the ministry said.     While Beijing and neighboring provinces are fighting heat waves, the southern half of the country has been drenched in rain or flood since late June.     The latest round of rainstorms and flood, also this year's worst according to the ministry, had battered 12 provinces, killing 75 people and leaving another 13 missing and 938,000 homeless as of 4 p.m. Sunday.     Close to 40 million people were affected by the rainstorms and the flood, it said, adding that a total of 101,000 houses were toppled in the flood, causing over 13 billion yuan (about 1.9 billion U.S. dollars) in direct economic losses, it said.
