BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The heaviest rain in 61 years that lashed Beijing Saturday have left at least four people dead and six others injured, local authorities said.
The commission has urged residents to use public transportation ahead of the holiday.
Li Fanghong, a police inspector in suburban Fangshan District, lost his life while trying to rescue villagers who were trapped by the floodwaters. Li was fatally electrocuted by a live wire that had fallen into the water late Saturday afternoon.
According to statistics from the National Energy Administration, China's power consumption in the first five months of this year was 1.96 trillion kilowatt hours, up 5.8 percent year on year, but the growth rate fell 6.2 percentage points from the same period of last year.
