NEW YORK – A New York City police officer was among the several people arrested in connection to a drug trafficking bust, officials announced Monday.NYPD officer Amaury Abreu and two other men, Julia Bautista and Gustavo Valerio, are accused of conspiring to import and distribute cocaine.The three men were allegedly members of a multinational drug trafficking organization with distributors in the New York area and the Dominican Republic between January 2016 and October 2020.Bautista, 35, and Valerio, 38, were high-ranking members of the organization based in New York and were responsible for distributing and overseeing the distribution of cocaine once it was in New York, according to the federal complaint.Abreu, 34, allegedly used his position as a police officer and provided information about law enforcement procedures, performing warrant checks on DTO members, on at least one instance, distributed cocaine for the group.Officials said Abreu pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a million bond with home detention as a condition of the bond.Two other men face changes in connection to the bust. Cesar Diaz-Bautista, 43, faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, while Junior Ortiz, 29, faces charges of cocaine importation conspiracy.Ortiz was released on a 0,000 bond and Diaz-Bautista will be released on a 0,000 bond, officials said.The other two defendants had not yet been arraigned Monday.Since 2016, law enforcement agents have seized more than 350 kilograms of cocaine belonging to the DTO.“This criminal network allegedly trafficked more than 350 kilos of cocaine and was assisted by an NYPD officer, who used his knowledge and access to help them stay one step ahead of the law,” stated District Attorney Madeline Singas.“There is no place for corruption in the NYPD and it will always be prosecuted fully. NEW YORK — Free parking, free gym memberships, even free rent for three months — Manhattan rents have hit their lowest levels in nearly a decade.Nicole Beauchamp, a real estate agent with Engel & Volkers, said the current housing market in New York City is unprecedented."I have never seen this amount of landlord concessions, and they have actually increased from the summer," she said. "There is a great amount of opportunity right now to snag a good deal on an apartment in Manhattan."The latest report from realtor Douglass Elliman found that the median price of a Manhattan apartment last month was ,100, down from ,500 last October.The savings are even steeper for smaller apartments."We've seen a 19% decrease in the prices of studios," Beauchamp said.Landlords are hoping to lure renters back to Manhattan after thousands moved out during the peak of the pandemic."The vacancy rate, last month I think was just under 6% and this month, we're over 6%," Beauchamp said.That adds up to 16,000 empty apartments in Manhattan, and the greatest share of those vacant apartments are downtown."I saw some incredible deals down in Tribeca over the summer that are still persisting right now," Beauchamp said.More than 5,000 new leases were signed in Manhattan last month, up 12% after a September slump.Many renters are finding more room across the East River."I think there is stronger demand in Brooklyn than the rest of the city," real estate agent Akil Rossi said.The Elliman report found Brooklyn leases surged in October to the second-highest October total in 12 years. Nestle and Starbucks are teaming up to create a "global coffee alliance."Under the deal, Nestle will pay .2 billion to market, sell and distribute Starbucks' packaged products around the world, the companies said Monday.Nestle already has a significant presence in the coffee business with well-known brands like Nescafe and Nespresso. It's now adding Starbucks coffee and tea products to the list.The agreement only covers Starbucks' packaged goods sold outside the US company's stores. New documents obtained by CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360" on Wednesday suggest a deeper link than previously known between the Trump Organization and the company that Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, established in 2016 to pay off porn star Stormy Daniels in exchange for silence about her alleged affair with Trump.The documents also offer the first evidence of an individual employed by the Trump Organization -- other than Cohen -- being involved in an ongoing legal battle regarding Daniels' alleged affair with Trump.A "demand for arbitration" document dated February 22, 2018, names Jill Martin, a top lawyer at the Trump Organization based in California, as the attorney representing "EC, LLC." "EC, LLC" is Essential Consultants, according to Daniels' lawsuit, a company that Cohen established in the weeks leading up to the 2016 presidential election to facilitate a payment of 0,000 to Daniels.Martin's title at the Trump Organization is vice president and assistant general counsel, according to her LinkedIn page.
