If you can't beat Amazon, partner with it.Kohl's is doing another deal with Jeff Bezos. The department store chain said Tuesday that 82 stores in the Chicago and Los Angeles areas will soon accept return items from Amazon. Kohl's will pack and ship the merchandise back to the online retailing giant for free.Earlier this month, Kohl's announced a plan to sell the Alexa-enabled Echo home speaker, Fire TV, tablets and other Amazon-branded devices in 10 of its stores.The latest partnership between Kohl's and Amazon comes as traditional retailers try (and often fail) to adapt to a rapidly changing landscape. Toys 'R' Us filed for bankruptcy protection late Monday.Toys 'R' Us has been hurt by Amazon, as well as Walmart and Target. But other retailers are following the lead of Kohl's and have decided to work more closely with Amazon to boost sales.Sears, which also owns Kmart, has been one of the worst-performing retailers of the past decade. "But these retailers will have to tread a careful line when partnering with Amazon."That's because Amazon isn't just working with other retailers. The company has opened its own physical stores, Amazon Books, that sells best-selling books and Amazon devices.And in its biggest brick-and-mortar move of all, Amazon bought Whole Foods this year for nearly billion. The deal recently closed, and now you can buy Amazon gadgets at the grocery store along with kale and quinoa.It should come as no surprise, then, that investors in Barnes & Noble and Kroger aren't too pleased with Amazon's increased clout in the real world. The stocks of both companies have plunged nearly 40% this year, while Amazon is up 30%.L2's Smith notes that Amazon has its sights set on clothing, too. (KGTV) - What a difference books can make for the learning and growth of a child. 10News Anchor Kimberly Hunt returned to Imperial Beach Charter School, where students can’t get enough of reading. Nine months ago, they were surprised with a donation of 1,800 books, made by 10News employees and the Scripps Howard Foundation. Each child was able to select two books of their own, with the rest going to the library and classrooms. “Last year, I didn't like to read. But this year I love to read," said 7-year-old Diego. His favorite book is "Hoot Hoot".“It's about owls. They're having a little party," he said.Seven-year-old Adriana loves the adventure of a good book. “My favorite thing about reading is you can imagine stuff while you're reading the book," she said. Her favorite book is "My Weird School". Principal Melissa Griffith says the books have made all the difference to students.“The opportunity for them to learn sounds, to learn words, to take adventures within books, there's really nothing like it and it's so beneficial for our students," said Griffith. “Our students enjoy the books greatly. In addition to that, it allows for additional books to be in our library and also in our classrooms. So in the hands of kids is what we want, and we're so appreciative of that." 1320

  

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office is responding to criticism after she got her hair done inside a San Francisco salon, amid a citywide coronavirus restrictions on salons.A statement from her office acknowledges Pelosi and her staff relied on the information provided by someone at the salon about what was allowed by the new city regulations that went into effect last Friday, according to multiple outlets.The statement came after Fox News shared a video showing Pelosi inside the salon. Fox talked to the salon’s owner, Erica Kious, who told the news outlet, “it was a slap in the face” that Pelosi could go in and “get her stuff done” while the owner and others can’t work.Kious said it was an independent stylist who rents a chair from her."This business offered for the speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business," Pelosi's Deputy Chief of Staff Drew Hammill said in the statement. "The speaker complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment."The statement also says Pelosi wore a mask except for a brief time when she was getting her hair washed.The new restrictions in San Francisco say hair salons can operate outdoors, and that some procedures, like color and chemical treatments, still cannot be done. 1316

  

IKEA is ending the publication of its iconic catalog after 70 years.The Swedish retailer cited the reason for ending it was due to consumers shopping online.IKEA said last year, their online retail sales increased by 45% worldwide, and they saw 4 billion users on its website."For both customers and co-workers, the IKEA Catalog is a publication that brings a lot of emotions, memories, and joy. For 70 years, it has been one of our most unique and iconic products, which has inspired billions of people across the world," said Konrad Grüss, Managing Director, Inter IKEA Systems B.V in a press release. "Turning the page with our beloved catalog is, in fact, a natural process since media consumption and customer behaviors have changed. To reach and interact with many people, we will keep inspiring with our home furnishing solutions in new ways."IKEA said they are transforming as a company and will focus more on "being more digital and accessible" by improving their digital services and launching new apps.“We are not starting from scratch. We have been transforming many aspects of how to reach and interact with our customers, and the work continues to find new ways to amplify unique IKEA home furnishing knowledge, products, and solutions in the best possible way - to inspire the many people through new ways, channels, and formats,” said Grüss.The company first released its catalog in 1951 in Sweden.
