PHOENIX - Kyrsten Sinema has defeated Martha McSally in the highly contested race for an Arizona Senate seat, per the Associated Press. This comes after several days of ballot counting and controversy over rural county results.Sinema (D) defeated McSally (R) for the seat previously held by Senator Jeff Flake, who chose not to run again in this election.On Friday, Republican and Democrat leaders agreed to give rural counties a second chance to fix ballot issues with voters. GOP leaders hoped the move would help Republicans gain votes for McSally in the race, but Sinema's lead was eventually too wide to recover from.  With this win, Sinema will be named the first female U.S. Senator from the state of Arizona.Democrats are projected to have at least 47 Senate seats at the start of the new Congress in 2019. PASADENA (CNS) - Joe Coulombe, the San Diego native who founded the Trader Joe's grocery chain and grew it from a single outlet in Pasadena to more than 500 stores in 40 states, has died following years of declining health. He was 89.Coulombe's son, Joe Jr., told reporters his father died late Friday at his home in Pasadena where he had been under hospice care."We're going to miss him a lot," his son told the Pasadena Star- News. "I think people are going to remember the wonderful Trader Joe's concept he put in place, and especially his treatment of his employees. He really cared about them."Those memories were already trending on social media early Saturday, with special note being made of Trader Joe's wages and unique, healthy foods."Trader Joe's is a model that every business should emulate," Twitter user NYGiantsfan74 posted. "The products are great, the prices are great and every ... employee is happy. I love Trader Joe's. Phoenix police are investigating after a young child was run over and killed by a parent Thursday night.According to Phoenix police, 21-month-old Samuel Hamilton died after he was struck by a car at a home near Interstate 17 and Northern Avenue.Authorities say the victim's father, 49-year-old Richard Hamilton, was moving a truck on his property when he hit his son. Hamilton stopped after feeling a "bump under the tire," police said.Samuel was taken to the hospital but died of his injuries, officials said,Hamilton is facing multiple charges in connection with the incident including DUI and negligent homicide. 633
