A federal judge has ordered a temporary injunction against the California law requiring presidential candidates to release their tax returns to secure a spot on the state's presidential primary ballot -- a law aimed at President Donald Trump, who has not released his tax returns. In a ruling Thursday, US District Court Judge Morrison England, Jr., said that California cannot force candidates to disclose their tax returns as outlined in the state's "Presidential Tax Transparency and Accountability Act." England said he would make his final ruling on the law before October 1.Even as the temporary injunction will likely face appeals from state officials, the decision marks a clear victory for Trump who 720

Whoever cheated the most would win. Likewise, Social Media. Clean up your act, NOW!!!!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 27, 2020 317

SCURRY, Texas -- The world of opioid addiction, the path it takes people on and the destruction it causes, is a world foreign to some but all too familiar to others. “When I was 19, is when I was first introduced to opioids,” said Andrew Rogers. Rogers is one of an estimated 1.7 million people in the U.S. addicted to opioids. “I went from pain pills which were easily available to heroin. The pain pills have actually gotten harder and more expensive to get so it’s just cheaper and easier to get heroin,” added Rogers, “from there on it was on.” Before he got hooked on heroin, Rogers had a bright future ahead of him with a full-ride scholarship to college on a pre-med track. But instead he has spent the last nine years in some pretty dark places. “It has made me do things I never thought I would do,” said Rogers. “I’ve overdosed twice. I’ve had friends who have died from it. I’ve actually had to hold one of my friends while he was passing away.” Like so many addicts, Rogers has tried quitting. In total he has been to rehab and detoxed 18 times. At the end of September, he checked himself into treatment again at The Treehouse, a recovery center. “We take the approach of treating the whole person,” said Dr. Ted Bender who is CEO of The Treehouse. “Teaching them how to think more rationally, teaching them how to handle the stress and emotion regulation. Teaching them how to have fun again and enjoy life again and become part of a community.” For nearly a decade, Bender has been trying to help so many people like Andrew Rogers. “We’re losing about a football stadium of people every single year to this epidemic. You know what would make an immediate impact – significant federal funding,” said Bender. “Recovery in itself isn’t the hard part. The hard part is getting the help you need,” said Rogers. When asked what is motivating him this time around, to stay clean and win in this fight against his addiction, Rogers says it is his 4-year-old daughter and his family. 2010

A Fordham University student who fell about 30 feet from inside a clock tower early Sunday has died, school officials said.Sydney Monfries was climbing the school's iconic clock tower in Keating Hall about 3 a.m. when the fall occurred on the Bronx, New York, campus of the Jesuit university. The senior, who was critically injured, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital."There are no words sufficient to describe the loss of someone so young and full of promise — and mere weeks from graduation," university President Joseph M. McShane, said in a statement. "Fordham will confer a bachelor's degree upon Sydney posthumously, which we will present to her parents at the appropriate time."A mass was scheduled to be held for Monfries on Sunday evening at Fordham University Church. Monfries was 22 years old, according to 829

A Buffalo Public School student’s mother wants answers after she says her son’s teacher dragged him down several stairs. “She was dragging him down the stairs by his knees,” said Tasha Dixon. Dixon says she didn’t witness what happened but someone else did, prompting an internal investigation by the district. “I had received a call from the principal and she said my son had been involved in an incident.” She says her son Malik is in a 611 class, which is for special education students. She says Malik also has a disability. “He asked her to go to the bathroom and she told him no because she felt he didn’t need to go. He sat down and she insisted he move so she took him by the legs and thumped him down a couple stairs.” Dixon says she met with the school principal, who she says indicated an eyewitness came forward to administrators about what happened. During that meeting she says she was told since it happened in a hallway, cameras captured the event, however; she was not allowed to see the video because it is property of the district. “In a closed meeting she said it wasn’t a good video,” Dixon said. “How can you have the audacity to touch my son?” A spokesperson for Buffalo Schools says the district did a month-long investigation and found the claims against the teacher unfounded. The teacher returned to school Friday, more than a month after the incident. Dixon kept her son home from school Friday. We asked the district to see the video. Our request was denied. A spokesperson tells us that’s because the video involved children and personnel matters. 1589
