(KGTV) - A new website from the City of San Diego's Planning Department is asking residents to help re-imagine the Clairemont neighborhood.Clairemontplan.org is like an online public meeting, where people can look at different ideas for adding housing and retail to the neighborhood and weigh in on which ones they like the most."We understand not everyone can make an in-person meeting at the time we schedule it for or attend a city council hearing in the middle of the day," says City Planning Director Mike Hansen.As MTS builds a new trolley line through Clairemont along the I-5, the area is coming up with a new community plan. The city wants to add housing and retail to the area to help meet new goals for housing, transportation and climate change.To do that, they're looking to add density to the neighborhood.The website identifies eight areas of Clairemont that could be redeveloped. It asks users to make changes to at least three areas while adding 5,000 new homes. At least 40% of the houses need to be near the trolley.To help, it offers basic renderings of what different development could look like in each neighborhood."We wanted to try to find something that allowed people to get into the weeds if they wanted to," says Tait Galloway, the Program Manager who helped design the website. "But, this still allows them to do it within 15-20 minutes."The website will be available until March 14th. After that, the answers will be collected and used as the city devises the new Clairemont Community Plan. They hope to present it by the end of 2020.City leaders hope this will become a template for other neighborhoods and a way to get more people involved in the process. SAN DIEGO (KGTV): A program in San Diego is making it easier for military families and veterans to get the help they need to fight food insecurity.Courage 2 Call offers food giveaways twice a month to anyone with a military ID or any veteran."We don’t have any criteria for them to go through the line," says program coordinator Angela Nagel. "They just have had to serve. We don’t look at status. We don’t look at discharge status. We don’t look at income. If you have a VA card, if you have a military id, come to courage to call we will get you set up with the resources in San Diego."The program focuses on giving out fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as other pantry staples. Nagel says, at any given event, they'll serve up to 200 people."It breaks my heart to know that these military families have to go through our lines to get food," says Nagel. "I know for active duty it is a struggle to live in San Diego because of how expensive it is here. For active duty, they should not have to be going through these lines, but they do."Food insecurity has been called a "hidden epidemic" in the military. The San Diego Hunger Coalition says that 1 in 10 people who go to food banks have a military member in their family. The Coalition says low wages for enlisted members make it difficult to keep food on the table.Courage 2 Call is one of several military-focused programs that receive food from Feeding San Diego. Hundreds went to the San Diego County Registrar’s Office Saturday, to turn in their ballots three days before election day. The Secretary of State announced that voter registration reached an all-time high in California, with more than 78% of the citizens eligible to vote.  393

SAN DIEGO,Calif. (KGTV) -- A North San Diego County mother died early Sunday morning and the father of her children has been arrested, authorities said.San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to calls of a possible shooting just after midnight at a home on 25969 Duro Rd. in Valley Center, according to Lt. Chad Boudreau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.When deputies arrived, they found an adult female suffering from a traumatic injury. The victim was rushed to Palomar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, said Boudreau.The victim was identified as Mayra Meraz, 31. Her injuries were not made available at this time.The suspect, Anthony Daniel Chaloux, 42, was arrested and booked into jail for murder.According to Boudreau, the suspect and the victim were in a domestic relationship and have two children together.Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330/after hours at (858) 565-5200.
