The Port of San Diego this week approved a 10-year lease with the owners and operators of Carnitas Snack Shack, Broken Yolk, and Little Italy food hall to open a new kind of restaurant at Seaport Village.The new restaurant, which will be on the east end of the property, will have a "Sam the Cooking Guy" concept. Sam Zien, also known as Sam the Cooking Guy, is a celebrity chef who aims to make cooking more down-to-earth, using ingredients that come from the everyday supermarket. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken Allied Gardens homeowner is pleading for the return of a stolen trailer? which contained the belongings of her hospitalized mother.When Erin Rose went out to the driveway of her home on Delbarton Street Friday morning, she froze. "My heart just dropped into my stomach. I felt nauseous," said Rose.Missing from her driveway was her 5-ft x 8-ft trailer. Drag marks revealed how it left the home."You can see it extends all the way to the street ... and to the intersection," said Rose.Rose had locked up the trailer in two places. The only thing she found were the remnants of one of the locks."Just heartbreaking and sad," said Rose. The trailer contained all the belongings of her mother Gail, 74, a part-time San Diegan recently hospitalized in Wisconsin with a heart condition. Rose had been storing her mother's belongings since buying a home months ago."That's all my mom has left. Now she has nothing," said Rose.Inside the trailer: furniture, household items, and some jewelry, including family heirlooms. There was also a lifetime of photos. Most of them haven't been digitized. Rose waited a week to tell her mother, until she was strong enough to receive the news."She cried, she cried. She knew she couldn't get stressed out, couldn't get her heart rate up. Right now she's focusing on her health. Hasn't really hit her she's going to come back to nothing," said Rose.Rose is now hoping to change that by making a plea for tips."I just want when she comes back to be able to have her photos on her nightstand. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local doctor says even though a COVID-19 vaccine will be available soon, it will still be several months before we see the impact.Dr. Mark Sawyer, an infectious disease specialist at Rady Children’s Hospital, is on the State Advisory Board that reviews COVID-19 vaccines. He spoke to ABC 10News about the importance of getting this vaccine.“The vaccine is safe, and it works, and we absolutely need this vaccine to deal with the pandemic,” Sawyer said.However, Sawyer added a warning: “If people suddenly think that we’re out of the woods now, and stop wearing masks and distancing from each other, then we’re going to still see the kinds of numbers that we’re seeing right now.”Despite intense discussions among the FDA advisory panel regarding whether Pfizer’s vaccine is safe to use on 16- and 17-year-olds, Sawyer points to the research that was done, saying the drug was tested on individuals from that age group.“There’s no reason to think that a 16-year-old or 17-year-old is going to have a reaction that an 18-year-old is going to have. I think it’s perfectly safe,” Sawyer told ABC 10News.Sawyer also described the side effects one may feel after getting the vaccine. Sawyer said a recipient’s arm may hurt and he or she may feel under the weather. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Point Loma family is trying to raise awareness of what they call a “dangerous” intersection, after cars have slammed into their house.The home the Cohen family began renting this year sits at the intersection of Nimitz Blvd. and Evergreen St., and has been hit twice since they moved in.According to San Diego Police, officers have responded to collisions at that intersection at least twelve times in the last five years.“I went to go wake up my mom and told her that we should probably get out of here because there's a car going into our kitchen,” said 12-year-old Max Cohen, speaking about a crash that happened the week the family moved in back in January. “You look out the window and see cars speeding down the road and not stopping at all on this turn.”Before they started renting, the Cohen’s weren’t notified that the home had a certain reputation for being hit. 10News reached out to the homeowner, who says that information was also not disclosed to him before he purchased the house this year. The City of San Diego tells 10News it is aware of the history of the intersection. Over the years, many cars have slammed into the house on Nimitz Blvd, sometimes resulting in serious injuries to the occupants in the home.A City spokesperson said upgrades to improve safety have been made, based on studies and evaluations by the City’s traffic engineering division.The following statement from the City of San Diego outlines the safety upgrades:“In the recent history, the City has evaluated the area and updated the intersection to include guardrails, a flashing beacon with a “curve” warning sign and a dedicated bike lane. The approaching lanes have been reduced from to one lane from two lanes and the signal at the approaching intersection has been modified to remain red between midnight and 4 a.m. to direct vehicles to stop before the intersection –- In other words the light remains red during the hours of 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. until a vehicle is detected.”But, the Cohen family said these changes are clearly not working.“It might not hit the house as much as it could, but it still does, which it shouldn’t at all,” said McKensey Cohen, whose bedroom was hit by a car in October. “Since then we've just been on edge about everything. We can hear the street for miles.”The family said they have contacted the City’s code enforcement department to come check the stability of the home, specifically McKensey’s bedroom, but they have not received a visit.The family hoped to move out the day of the last crash, but they had to postpone the move. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat caught fire Sunday around 2:45 p.m. at Shelter Cove Marina, witnesses say a lithium battery in the navigation panel started the blaze."Saw the smoke, thought it was a barbecue then the kids started screaming on the dock and saw the black smoke and knew it was time to react," Boater and Witness Charlie Colson said. He said he grabbed a hose and was helping the father who was on the boat when the fire started. Getting a boat fire put out quickly is crucial, Witness and Boater Murad Abel said. "There's a lot of electrical equipment, you have batteries, you have fuel, propane, it's all probably within 10 feet of each other," he said.Colson said they had it under control by the time firefighters made it to the scene. "The nine minutes probably seemed like 27 to me, because I was putting the fire out, and I wanted some help, I wanted a professional there," He said chuckling.He said the family had just moved onto the boat last week. Both confirmed the family has a special needs son, adored by the community. "You could literally come back 2 hours later and he's still fishing trying to get fish off the back of the boat, so he's very diligent in that," Abel said.They're hoping insurance covers the damage.
