VISTA (CNS) - An ex-con who stole a car with a 6-month-old baby inside from an Escondido shopping center pleaded guilty to felony auto theft and was immediately sentenced to four years in state prison on Monday.Anthony Guerrero, 31, entered his change of plea during a hearing at the Vista courthouse. He also admitted that he was convicted of robbery in 2009 and 2015, said Deputy District Attorney Nicolette Estrada.Dispatchers received a call from the baby's mother at 10:06 p.m. on Dec. 4 saying that her Mercedes-Benz sedan was stolen from outside a 99 Cents Only store at the Civic Center Plaza Shopping Center on North Escondido Boulevard. She said her 6-month-old child was in the vehicle.A short time later, a police officer spotted the Mercedes in a parking lot in the 1200 block of North Escondido Boulevard, less than two miles from the shopping center where the car was taken, said Escondido police Sgt. Suzanne Baeder. As the officer approached, the suspect, later identified as Guerrero, got out of the car and ran.He was taken into custody after he crossed the street and the baby was found inside the car unharmed, Baeder said. 1153

Voters in Florida have passed an amendment to the state constitution that raises the minimum wage in the state to an hour.According to the Associated Press, voters overwhelmingly supported Amendment 2, which passed with 61% support.Currently, the minimum wage in the state is .56 an hour.The AP reports that supporters of the amendment believed raising the minimum wage will raise the quality of life for millions of residents and argued that living on an .56 minimum wage was not possible given the state's rising cost of living.Opponents of the amendment say raising the minimum wage will stifle economic recovery in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and have a negative impact on the state's tourism industry.Though a minimum wage was a central part of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's campaign, Florida went for President Donald Trump. 870

WASHINGTON (AP) — An official at the Department of Homeland Security says he was pressured by agency leaders to make his intelligence reports reflect the priorities of the Trump administration. Brian Murphy also says in a whistleblower complaint that he was demoted from his position as the Office of Intelligence and Analysis in retaliation for refusing to alter his reports on such matters as Russian interference in the election and the extent of the threat posed by white supremacists.A copy of the complaint was released Wednesday by Rep. Warning: Video attached is disturbingLAFAYETTE, La. -- Louisiana State Police are investigating after a Black man was shot and killed by officers in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Friday.State police say shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, the Lafayette Police Department responded to a disturbance involving a person armed with a knife at a convenience store. Officers encountered 31-year-old Trayford Pellerin of Lafayette in the parking lot of the convenience store on NE Evangeline Thruway. As officers tried to apprehend Pellerin, troopers say he fled the scene and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers deployed Tasers as they pursued Pellerin, but they were ineffective.Pellerin, who was still armed with a knife, attempted to enter an occupied convenience store along the NW Evangeline Thruway. Officers discharged their weapons and Pellerin was struck by gunfire.Pellerin was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No officers were injured.The officers have been placed on administrative leave, according to the spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department.The investigation is active and ongoing. Investigators with the state police will be reviewing body cam video from Lafayette police.Video being widely shared on Facebook shows a man with what witnesses said was a knife in his hand walking away from police toward a convenience store. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's Department is asking for help locating a missing man in the North County.Deonicio Sebastian, 67, was last seen Monday at his home on W. Indian Rock Rd. in Vista. SDSO says Sebastian left his home on foot sometime Monday, taking his wallet but leaving his cellphone.Sebastian's family has not had any contact with him since.He's described as a Hispanic man, about 5-foot 4-inches tall, and weighing about 200 pounds. He has a receding hairline and dark brown complexion. His family also says he cannot read or write.Sebastian walks with a limp and requires medication every six hours for health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and asthma. He also has a pacemaker.SDSO said Sebastian commonly walks, or rides the bus or train to various places to run errands, buy food, and go to medical appointments.
