SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Thieves hit a well-known business causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Bill Howe Plumbing, located on Aero Drive, had their work trucks vandalized as thieves steal gas from the gas tanks. Fleet manager Rhett Wheeler says the business has been targeted at least three times in the last month. “Its a shock that someone will crawl underneath a car with a drill, drill a hole in a gas tank, to steal a couple of gallons of gasoline,” says Wheeler. Thieves have damaged at least 10 vehicles, costing the family-owned company around ,000 in damages. “We end up losing a truck for two or three days per occurrence,” says Wheeler. Wheeler is urging everyone, including businesses, to check their vehicles of leaking gas before driving off. The company has reported the incidents to police. (KGTV) - Families of the San Diego Unified School District participated in a telephone town hall Wednesday to listen in on a discussion between panelists Superintendent Cindy Marten and three SDUSD teachers. The school year is set to begin virtually Aug. 31 and the panel discussed what day-to-day classroom time will look like.Teachers shared some of the steps they’ve taken to prepare for the online learning and gave tips to families to keep students successful. Some tips included making sure parent information is updated to ensure accurate information on scheduling and supply pickup is shared, setting alarms on phones to keep students on track with their schedule and compensate for a lack of bells, and also creating a designated learning space for students.Related: San Diego Unified School District announces detailed online learning planThe panel, organized and hosted by Assemblymember Todd Gloria, said individual schools will share specific information on where and when families can pick up supplies, including books and computers. The teachers on the panel also assured families that the students would not spend the whole school day in front of a screen, but rather have some time with the teacher, some time with other students and some individual work time. They also added that older students will work on a quarter system instead of a semester system, which would allow smaller class sizes and fewer classes for each student.While the main message of the town hall was hope and teamwork between schools and families, parent Andrea Gallegos said she still has questions that went unanswered.“Is there a plan to transition back when we’re off the watch list now? Is there any kind of timeline for that? SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- As San Diego County awaits state guidance on how to move forward with reopening different sectors, a local church continues to defy public health orders by operating inside.Under the current public health order, religious services may continue outside with social distancing in place.Awaken Church was sent a cease and desist letter from the county’s public health officer, Dr. Wilma Wooten, for operating inside in July.A month later, the church is defying the health order again by resuming indoor operations on Sunday, August 23, the church’s 15th anniversary. Services and locations are posted on the church's website. A video on the church’s website shows pastors Jurgen and Leanne Matthesius speaking about why they have decided to reopen. The two said it was time to reopen and that “fighting for our religious freedoms and pushing back against government overreach is not only worth the cost; it’s essential.”In the video, the pastors say that the governor and county officials continue to keep churches under strict regulations, which prevents them from meeting the needs of their congregation.“Sadly, we’ve had five people connected to our church that have lost their lives, not from the virus but because of the virus. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The man accused of raping and torturing a woman in his home in Rancho Penasquitos faced a judge today. 32-year-old Uber driver, Seyed Hassan Kaboli pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of sexual crimes. Kaboli peaked through his holding cell, as the judge announced his fate. San Diego Police said Kaboli bound, raped, and tortured a woman, multiple times at his home in Rancho Penasquitos on May 19th and 20th. Sky10 footage showed the victim being consoled by the police on Monday, and she said she ran naked to escape 24 hours of brutal misery. The next day, Kaboli was arrested just north of National City. 10News obtained a copy of the criminal complaint, explaining Kaboli’s 12 felony charges. Under count three, it reads Kaboli “inflicted aggravated mayhem and torture on the victim and another person.”Under count eleven, it reads “said person was unlawfully restrained by said defendant and an accomplice.”In the courtroom, neither the defense nor the district attorney would comment on a possible third party.Still, the judge issued a protective order for the victim— a woman, whose relationship was not disclosed. But Kaboli’s defense attorney said she was not his Uber customer. “There is no prior relationship,” Kaboli’s attorney, Ryan Tegnelia said. “He is not denying that they came into contact with each other on the date of the incident. But before that, they did not have any relationship.”Tegnelia said Kaboli’s family describes him as an introverted man who keeps to himself. They said they are shocked at his arrest. “This obviously came completely out of left field for them, caught everybody by surprise,” Tegnelia said. The judge set Kaboli’s bail amount at 0,000.
