SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters have extinguished the fire that caused a hotel near Harbor Island Park to be evacuated Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters say the two-alarm fire broke out at the Sheraton on the 1300 block of Harbor Island Drive. No one was injured, but the fire, which took place in the hotel's elevator shaft, caused at least 0,000 in damage. Firefighters were alerted to the fire after they say people reported heavy smoke coming from the elevator shaft.At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.  551

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Despite closing their cafeteria, Serving Seniors has begun offering to-go and delivery meals to seniors in need.At their location at 1525 4th Ave, they are distributing breakfast and lunch to anyone over 60-years-old, with a focus on low-income and homeless seniors.They are also doing home deliveries for those who are under the "self-isolation" request by the state.To request a delivery, call 619-235-6572.The county is also coordinating resources and can answer all non-emergency requests by calling 2-1-1. 537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hundreds of miles from her hometown of Paradise, Ashley Ketcham watches in horror as the Camp Fire ravages her beloved community.She now lives in Escondido and first heard about the fire from her mother.“I kind of blew it off because we’ve had fires my whole life, and then she wrote me back again and said the CMA Church burned down," Ketcham remembers.RELATED: Camp Fire: At least 9 dead as fire incinerates N. California townAt first, she felt numb.“I woke up this morning and, um, a friend of mine said 'Is it ok to hate God right now?' This time of year also can signal a slowdown in the real estate market - and an opportunity for buyers.Germaine LaValade took advantage, and is about to own his first home. He’s in escrow for a four-bedroom home in North Pacific Beach, listed for .17 million. LaValade, a software engineer, said a big reason the seller chose him was because the sale would close before the end of the year for tax purposes.“Because we are renters right now we didn’t have any house to sell to buy this one,” LaValade said.A motivated seller is just one of the advantages a homebuyer may have in these winter months - far removed from peak summer season. Another help - interest rates, which have been on the rise, tend to soften as activity slows nationwide.“We’re seeing a lot of prices are coming down from the all-time highs that they were,” said San Diego realtor Gary Kent. “We’re probably off as much as 5 percent from the peak, peak, peak of the market.”But prices are still high in San Diego County.
