SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Camp Pendleton Marine was taken into custody this week after border officials say the Marine was trying to smuggle immigrants through a port of entry.The junior-enlisted Marine was taken into custody early Monday morning by U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton. The Marine was reportedly bringing undocumented immigrants into the port.The Marine is being held in civilian custody and CBP and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service were investigating. In July, 23 Marines were detained over human trafficking, drug distribution, and weapons charges, according to the base.Of those 1st Marine Division Marines, six have pleaded guilty at court martial appearances. Thirteen Marines have approved pre-trial agreements requesting separation from the Marines instead of court martials or waiving separation board processes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken local woman says her brother was killed in a Phoenix park while trying to 'protect his friends.'"He was infamous for making people laugh. He had a heart bigger than his being," said Amy Clark, Isaac Clark's sister. Last month, Isaac Clark, 23, moved from San Diego to Phoenix to be closer to his 4-year-old son. He had a job lined up doing event setup. Last Wednesday, Clark found himself in a park around 1 a.m. His sister Amy says he was checking on two friends, who had been evicted and were living in a car.Police say he heard a vehicle being vandalized, and headed toward the sound before realizing it was his friends' car. That is when the suspects approached Clark, sparking a fight. Clark was stabbed multiple times. He would die at the hospital."I feel like he died a hero. He tried to do the right thing. He was trying to protect his friends," said a tearful Amy Clark.Three people were arrested. Police say Maurice James, 24, and Eldon Sandoval, 18 are facing second-degree murder charges. A third person, Chantel Ben, 21, faces hindering prosecution chargers."They took my one-and-only sibling. They took my one-and-only baby brother from me," she said.An emotional vigil was held at that park a night after the incident. Clark's sister is haunted by their conversation about the violence in the world right before he left San Diego. "We were saying we just need to be more kind, more empathetic," she said.A grieving sister says that kindness was nowhere to be found In that park, early that morning."We need to get justice because he now has a 4-year-old son who has to live without him," she said.A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help with funeral expenses and to set up a fund for his son. 1753

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A father and daughter were taken to the hospital for injuries related to an apartment fire in Carmel Valley Tuesday afternoon. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, firefighters were called to an apartment complex on the 12000 block of Torrey Bluff Drive around 4:30 p.m. The department says the man was taken to the hospital with burns to his hands and face while his daughter was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. The fire was reportedly contained to only one room of the apartment. Preliminary investigations revealed that the blaze may have been started by some sort of device the father was using to smoke. Its goal is to help offer pain relief for severely burned koalas. The device, the Oska Pulse, uses electromagnetic pulses to help damaged cells heals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A day-long technology fair promises to give senior citizens all the tools they need to stay up-to-date in the digital age.San Diego Oasis will host the tech fair at the Grossmont Center movie theaters on Tuesday, October 15."We're covering all areas of life," says Oasis CEO Simona Valanciute. "We want to show how technology can make it more fun, more safe and more connected."Classes at the fair will cover iPhone basics, podcasting, micro-mobility options, voice-enabled tech, cloud storage, identity theft, cord-cutting and more.Norma Mendenhall has taken a handful of iPhone classes at Oasis already. She says this kind of education is vital for her peers."As a senior, sitting at home, thinking that's not for me, I can't do that, I'm nervous about it, this is the place to take all of that doubt away," says Mendenhall.That advice is the same thing San Diego County officials want to spread. According to the County, there will be 1.2 million people above age 65 by the year 2030.
