SAN DIEGO (CNS) — Two men who were allegedly running an illegal hash oil lab inside a Lemon Grove warehouse were charged by federal prosecutors Friday.Adam Ledesma and Jared Hoffman are charged with manufacturing around 166 kilograms of hash oil inside the building raided by Drug Enforcement Administration agents on Thursday. The hash oil, valued at more than .75 million, was seized along with ``sophisticated laboratory equipment'' valued at more than million, according to the DEA.In the criminal complaint filed Friday, DEA Special Agent James Gillis wrote that DEA agents regularly surveilled the building over the past month, and observed Ledesma and Hoffman regularly entering the building. There were ``no visible indications of commercial or manufacturing operations operating out of the building,'' according to Gillis, who said that on May 14, he found a number of paint buckets, stainless steel pots and other items he alleged were consistent with manufacturing cannabis inside two dumpsters in the building's loading dock. The building's electricity bills dating back to last May were also ``excessive and consistent with the amount of electricity required to operate equipment commonly used for concentrated cannabis extraction and/or indoor marijuana cultivation.''Search warrants were served Thursday for the premises, which has no license for marijuana cultivation from either the state or San Diego County, according to the DEA.Authorities said it was the sixth hash oil lab in San Diego County dismantled by federal authorities within the past three weeks. Explosions at two of those labs sent four people to hospitals with serious burns, the DEA said. The agency alleged that the Lemon Grove lab was in particular danger of an explosion or fire, due to high combustible gas readings at the premises, as well as a large amount of ethanol found at the lab. 1886

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 96-year-old family secret reveals a piece of the Carlsbad school district’s history. Florence Oliver has lived in San Diego her whole life."I was born at SD General at that time, but of course I don't remember it!" The family settled down in Carlsbad, and for Florence, family is everything. For the last century, her family hung on to another memory. A brass bell from the Carlsbad School which rung daily for class. In 1922, Florence's uncles stole stole the bell to pull off a prank on her mother's wedding night. "They hung it, in those days you had those wire springs on bed to hold mattresses, they hung it underneath, no one knew… so the bell really rang loud!"Rather than return the bell, it stayed in the family - first handed down to Florence's oldest brother, and then the next brother, and eventually to her."What does it mean to me, it's just a piece of our life, and it's gone through our family, it's like it's related."One day, Florence had a conversation with her niece. "She said Dad used to go in the garage and she told me that bell needs to go home, that would make him very proud."So last month, Florence made good on her promise. Nearly 100 years later the bell is back where it belongs. 1239

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 36 students reportedly felt sick at a Bay Terraces elementary school due to possible construction-related fumes, according to the San Diego Fire Department.San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to Zamorano Fine Arts Academy around 10:30 a.m. following the reports of students feeling ill. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three newly activated teams of chaplains certified as handlers of specially trained service dogs will offer added emotional support services to the employees of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the agency announced Tuesday."We are excited to introduce our three canines," San Diego Fire Chief Colin Stowell said. "They are highly trained and available to our employees for emotional support in dealing with traumatic or emotionally challenging incidents. ... Using canines has proven successful in so many other areas, and we know these dogs will fit right in with our fire family."The SDFRD Crisis Response Canine program will be administered by chaplains Debi Arnold, Dan Guarrero and Betsy Salzman, making use of the skills of their dogs, Ty, Bodie and Genoa.Ty is a 6-year-old mini goldendoodle owned, trained and handled by Arnold, who bought him when he was 12 weeks old. They have two years' experience with a local trauma intervention program.Bodie, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever, was trained and placed by Next Step Service Dogs, which prepares canines for active-duty military personnel, veterans and first responders who have post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said. The total cost for Bodie and his training was about ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 10News is learning more about how suspected Poway shooter John Earnest got the weapon. On Thursday, investigators revealed that they believe he got his rifle from a licensed dealer. In federal documents released on Thursday, prosecutors report, “The firearm was manufactured by Smith & Wesson in Princeton, Illinois and shipped to Springfield, Massachusetts where it was assembled. The firearm was ultimately transferred, via Fort Worth, Texas, to a Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) Dealer in San Diego, California, which sold the firearm to Earnest. Earnest picked up the rifle on April 26, 2019.”That was the day before the shooting. In a press conference on Thursday, Southern District of California U.S. Attorney Shane Harrigan told reporters, “I can say that there is no allegation that the defendant violated federal law when he acquired the rifle that he used in the violent attack on the synagogue.”Questions still remain as to whether state law was violated. Earnest is only 19 years-old.California law requires that adults be over 21 years-old before they can buy a firearm, unless they have a hunting license, are current or former military, or are in law enforcement.Prosecutors wouldn't comment on whether Earnest had a hunting license. “That allegation isn't in the complaint but please understand that as the criminal process moves forward, more information may be available to the public,” added Harrigan.District Attorney Summer Stephan originally said that the rifle had been obtained legally, but when pressed on Wednesday by 10News, she didn't provide a clear answer. “I don't want to [comment any further] because it's a pending case,” she said.At Thursday’s press conference, a reporter asked the federal prosecution about when Earnest purchased his 60 rounds of ammunition. Harrigan replied, “We’re limited to the allegations in the complaint. I hope you understand. I think more information may be forthcoming.” 1962
