Special Counsel Robert Mueller spoke publicly for the first after his office's two-year investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.Mueller, who did not conclude the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government, also declined to clear President Trump of obstruction of justice. "If we had had confidence that the president did not commit a crime, we would have said so," Mueller said. Mueller cited a longstanding justice department policy that a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime. It's based on an interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. In other words, Mueller laid out the evidence, but it's up to Congress to act through impeachment. Meanwhile, Trump has continued to fight congressional subpoenas in the wake of the investigation. "If he continues with this behavior, I think it puts us in a position where we're headed down that road," said Rep. Scott Peters, a Democrat who represents that 52nd district. "I'm concerned about the impression we leave if we don't do anything in the face of this behavior."Peters stopped short of calling for impeachment Wednesday, as did Democratic Congressman Mike Levin. Last week, Democratic Congressman Juan Vargas became the first San Diego lawmaker to call for removal from office. Rep. LOUIS -- The U.S. Coast Guard has referred the investigation into last month’s deadly sinking of a Missouri tourist boat to federal prosecutors.The accident occurred July 19 at Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri. An amphibious duck boat sank amid strong winds, killing 16 passengers and a crew member. Fourteen people survived.Nine of those victims were from on Indianapolis family. Tia Coleman and her nephew, Donovan were the only two members of their family to survive. The legal team for the Coleman family says it “supports the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western Missouri for criminal investigation." Adding, "All those who continue to grieve  support holding fully accountable those responsible for making the deadly decisions that resulted in the catastrophe.”Several investigations are still underway from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Coast Guard and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.The duck boat attraction owner, Ripley Entertainment, says it is cooperating with the investigations. 1115

Some 220 children from separated families remain in custody, four months after a judge ordered the US government to reunite the immigrant families it split up at the border.And 14 of those children were only just added to the list the government uses to track reunifications, officials revealed in court documents filed late Thursday night.The acknowledgment that more families were separated than previously reported is likely to spark concern from advocates, who've frequently questioned the accuracy of the government's record-keeping in the aftermath of the family separation crisis.A review of records prompted the Office of Refugee Resettlement to add 14 more children to its tally, the court filing said. Government attorneys said they've "been careful to re-evaluate and refine the numbers" as they learn new information.The numbers appear in the latest federal court filing in the American Civil Liberties Union's class-action case over family separations. They come as a caravan of migrants, which includes many families, treks through Mexico, bound for the US border -- and as the Trump administration considers a new pilot program that could result in the separations of kids and parents once again."Given the lack of a plan or system to keep track of families, it's no surprise the original numbers were inaccurate," said Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU's Immigrants' Rights Project and the lead attorney in the case.Advocates have warned that inaccurate statistics could have serious consequences, prolonging family separations and making it harder for the public to track the government's progress in complying with the court's order.Officials have stressed that the numbers are constantly changing, and attorneys are still debating them as they meet to sort out the next steps. Several NFL teams reported Wednesday that players had tested positive for COVID-19, putting at least three games scheduled for this weekend in jeopardy.According to ESPN and NFL Network, among those players who tested positive was Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore, the NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Gilmore played in Monday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, potentially spreading the virus to reigning Super Bowl champs.Gilmore's positive test comes after Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for the virus on Saturday.
