(CNS) -- Assemblywoman Autumn Burke, D-Marina del Rey, announced Monday she has tested positive for the coronavirus after apparently being exposed while the Legislature was reviewing the state budget.Her positive test led to a closure of the state Capitol in Sacramento so the Assembly offices could be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized."On July 3rd I received a call from the Assembly Human Resources Department that I had a 'mask to mask' exposure to COVID-19 on June 26th," Burke wrote on her Twitter page. "I was tested on the morning of July 4th and received my results in the evening that I had tested positive for the coronavirus."Currently my daughter and I have no symptoms, but will be remaining in quarantine until released by a doctor," she wrote. "Thank you to everyone who has reached out with well wishes. We are fine but it is of the utmost importance that everyone stay safe, be healthy & remain vigilant."The Los Angeles Times reported that four other people who work in the Capitol had also tested positive, and the building will be closed for a week.A spokesman for Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, D-Lakewood, told The Times there were five confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Assembly, but he declined to identify the other patients or say if they were elected officials or staffers.The state Assembly and Senate are both on recess this week. 1400

Major domestic airlines are adjusting to a “new normal,” one that will require masks and frequent sanitization.With changes amid the COVID-19 pandemic comes some degree of normalcy on board flights. For instance on Tuesday, Delta announced that alcohol service on board domestic flights greater than 500 miles will be restored on Thursday.Also,, United Airlines and American Airlines will both be unblocking middle seats, allowing for the possibility for full flights. Delta says it will continue to block middle seats through the end of September. Southwest is also keep the middle seat on flights blocked through at least September.American Airlines said last week that its air filtration system allows for those on board flights to breathe without fear of infection.“Over the past several years, American has been further improving our HEPA filters by adding a layer of activated carbon to our filters to provide additional removal of fumes, odors and volatile organic compounds,” said Ben Thiesse, American’s Senior Engineer for the Airbus A320 Family. “Today, these carbon HEPA filters are installed on all of American’s A320 and 787 aircraft.”United Airlines says, like other airlines, it is relying upon travelers to wear face masks to keep other travelers safe."Every reputable heath institution says wearing a mask is one of the most effective things people can do to protect others from contracting COVID-19, especially in places like an aircraft where social distancing is a challenge," said United's Chief Customer Officer, Toby Enqvist. MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell believes northeast Ohio's shortage of affordable housing is having a tragic impact on the academic development of children. Blackwell told WEWS the affordable housing shortage is causing too many families to move from school district to school district and, in some cases, multiple moves are made in one school year.Blackwell said housing insecurity is playing a major factor in hindering the education of children, especially children from African-American families living in Cleveland and the inner-ring suburbs."It is an issue here in northeast Ohio, it is an issue here in the school district in Maple Heights," Blackwell said. "These children have to deal with the stress when they see their parents negotiating with the landlord, they see mom's rejection, they are part of that rejection when the application gets turned down, or the eviction notice comes.""All of these things add to the heightened sense of anxiety and stress. It's overwhelming on a daily basis."Blackwell pointed to a Harvard Medical School?study indicating that multiple moves contribute to a critical loss of learning.Blackwell said too many families simply can't afford to find good, stable housing."They make between and an hour, they have three kids, they have a car they're trying to maintain and they have to work two jobs to do that," Blackwell said.Professor Ronnie Dunn, Cleveland State University chief diversity and inclusion officer, told WEWS the toxic stress caused by multiple moves and a lack of affordable places to live are hurting young children and families more and more."In Cleveland, we average about 11,000 evictions annually," Dunn said. "A lot of that stems from living in inadequate, poor housing. It has a very dire and adverse effect."Blackwell believes possible solutions include creating tax credits to give developers incentives to create new affordable housing, and municipalities and developers working together to re-purpose existing square footage."There's a lot of ugly empty buildings, gut them," Blackwell said. Mack Beggs defended his Texas wrestling state title on Saturday by winning the girls Class 6A 110-pound class, to the chagrin of some of those in attendance in Cypress, Texas, the Dallas Morning News reported. Beggs, who was born female, is a transgender male who is only allowed to wrestle against girls. Texas' University Interscholastic League requires that athletes compete in the gender listed on their birth certificate. Beggs told the Dallas Morning News that he has not gone through any gender reassignment surgeries. But that did not stop those in the crowd from heckling Beggs. "They're saying 'steroids.' They're saying, 'Oh, they're beating up on girls,'" he told the Morning News. "It just comes down to technique and who has the most heart. I put too much blood, sweat and tears, I put too much B.S. into this journey that I wanted to come out on top."If Beggs had his choice, he would be competing against boys. "What can I tell people? I can tell the state legislature to change the policy, but I can't tell them to change it right now," Beggs told reporters. "All I can hope for is that they come to their [senses] and realize this is stupid and we should change the policies to conform to other people in my position."Among those who believe it was not a fair bout was Beggs' semifinal opponent Kayla Fitts, who went 52-0 as a senior for Cypress Ranch High School. "The strength definitely was the difference.
