It's tough enough to get a student to sit still, let alone keep a mask on all day.For schools planning to return to full or partial in-person education, all students are required to wear masks. The order from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine came based on recommendations from The Ohio Children’s Hospital Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.Carol Gebhardt, a fourth-grade teacher at Mason Elementary School, said she wants to make sure her students are being safe.“I think that if we show them, we show our students that, you know, we can make the best of this situation, that it will hopefully roll over onto them,” she said. “I've seen a lot of funny memes about what's going to happen. But I think also if you are modeling that, wearing it at the beginning of the year and setting up that 'this is good for us. This is good for our safety. We want to wear these.’ These are a positive thing.”Dr. Josh Schazzfin, Cincinnati Children's leading expert on infection prevention and control and associate professor of infectious disease, said wearing a mask is like other learned behaviors for kids.“We're not born knowing to brush our teeth or to put on clothes or to wear shoes, how to behave,” he said. “A child will respond to incentives -- a star on a chart that leads to a reward. The child gets to choose what kind of mask or the logo on a mask. The child's obsessed with Marvel Comics, the child's obsessed with dinosaurs, put those on the mask.”Schazzfin agreed with Gebhardt, that parents and teachers should lead by example on this issue.“Number one, we lead by example, and number two, we set expectations. This is acceptable, this is not acceptable,” Schazzfin said.Schazzfin said it's not about forcing the issue but finding the best way to acclimate your child to wear a mask.Hamilton County officials are working to make sure schools have a stockpile of masks and other PPE for students and teachers.Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency partnered with the county Educational Service Center to provide masks, 350 no-touch thermometers, and 50,000 face shields to schools in the county.This story was originally reported by Pat LaFleur at WCPO. 2175

International auction house Bonhams has canceled an upcoming sale of rhino products amid mounting pressure from environmental groups, it was announced Friday.The auction, which was due to take place in Hong Kong next week, would have featured more than 20 antiques carved from rhino horn, including a vase, a hairpin, a pouring vessel and a variety of drinking cups.In a statement provided to CNN, Bonhams global CEO Matthew Girling said: "(We recognize) there are widely held concerns about this issue and have decided that the sale of the rhinoceros carving scheduled to take place in Hong Kong on 27 November will now not take place."An online catalog for the sale, which had been titled "Exceptional Chinese Rhinoceros Horn Carvings from the Angela Chua Collection," has been removed from the auction house's website.Girling also announced that Bonhams would join the likes of Christie's in barring rhino horn items from its auctions."In future Bonhams will not offer artifacts made entirely or partly from rhinoceros horn in its salerooms," the statement said.The decision follows objections from high-profile conservation groups, including WildAid. An online petition, addressed directly to Girling, called the auction "unethical" and "unsustainable," suggesting that the sale would stimulate poaching.The petition, which had been signed almost 10,000 times at the time of writing, also claimed that the sale was "quite likely illegal," and composed of "horns from recently poached rhinos" rather than antiques.Girling refuted such suggestions in his statement, claiming that all rhino carvings that pass through the auction house are antiques with "known provenance" and requisite licenses."Bonhams stands behind the professionalism and expertise of its specialists," he added.The use of rhino horn in Chinese art and crafts dates back millennia. Carved cups, such as those featured in the Bonhams auction, were thought to protect their users from poisoning. It was once believed that rhino horn reacted with poison, producing a fizzing that would alert drinkers to danger.Despite global efforts to combat poaching, antique rhino horn items can still be bought and sold if they carry a license issued by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species).Bonhams, which is headquartered in London, is considered among the world's oldest and largest fine art auction houses. Rhino products previously sold by Bonhams include a cup dating back to the 17th century, which sold for 4,000 earlier this year.Rhino horn items recently sold at the auction house's UK salerooms include a Buddhist carving from Nepal, which went for ￡40,000 (,000), and another elaborate Chinese cup worth ￡25,000 (,000). Other lots have included snuff bottles and walking sticks.A senior specialist for wildlife programs and policy at Humane Society International, Iris Ho, welcomed Friday's decision."We applaud Bonhams for canceling the November 27 auction of rhino carvings and warmly welcome its pledge of not offering any rhino horn artifacts in the future," she told CNN in an emailed statement."The price to do the right thing -- choosing saving rhinos over profiting from rhino horn sales -- is priceless. The responsibility of ensuring the survival of the remaining wild rhinos, less than 30,000 of them, rests upon all of us."Conservationists, including Humane Society International, also mounted pressure on auction house Sotheby's to withdraw rhino horn items from one of its upcoming sales.A two-day Chinese art auction, set to take place at Sotheby's Hong Kong next week, had featured three rhino horn items with a combined value of up to 420,000 Hong Kong dollars (,000), according to an online catalog.As of Saturday, Sotheby's announced it would withdraw the three rhino horn related lots from the sale in an e-mail statement. INDIANAPOLIS — A new book you're sure to want to add to your collection is coming out next spring — staring none other than the Bunny of the United States (BOTUS). The second family's bunny, Marlon Bundo, is the focus of the book written by VP Mike Pence's middle child, Charlotte, and illustrated by her mother, Karen Pence. The announcement was made on the "Marlon Bundo" official Instagram account (@marlonbundo) Friday afternoon. "In the book, I follow Grampa around all day, as a BOTUS should, while he goes about his duties as Vice President," the announcement says. The book is set to be released March 19, 2018.  A portion of the proceeds from the book will go to charity.  749

It's a frightening case of road rage that happened in broad daylight and spanned several communities.Now Police in Allen Park, Michigan are asking for the public's help in finding the man who was driving a black Nissan Altima with a damaged fender and out of state plates on the front and back of the vehicle. Detective Jim Thorburn with the Allen Park Police Department said the man chased another driver several miles and then unleashed at least eight rounds of gunfire at another driver in broad daylight on the southbound Southfield Fwy ramp to I-94. It all started with a fender bender around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in Detroit, in the area of Chicago near Greenfield. The driver of a pick up truck tried to exchange information, he told police, when the black Nissan Altima driver pulled out a gun. That when he ran. "He was being chased by a Nissan Ultima and he had a big pick up truck and he thought by cutting through fields and stuff he would lose the Ultima," Thorburn said.But that didn't happen. The victim hopped on the Southfield Freeway southbound driving to the I-94 ramp, where the suspect who was still chasing him, opened fire. The victim was hit in the backside but was able to keep driving, he finally lost the shooter, pulled over in Taylor and called police. Police photos show the side of the pick up truck riddled with bullet holes. A big bullet hole in the head rest was a sign that the suspect was likely shooting to kill. The victim escaped with a superficial bullet wound to the backside. Today he said he is in pain, but recovering.  Police are hoping to find someone who might have seen the male suspect fire eight to nine gun shots through the passenger window of his black Nissan Ultima in broad daylight on the busy freeway.
