SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorcyclist died Sunday in a head-on collision with a truck in the San Pasqual neighborhood, police said.The accident happened at 1:41 p.m. when a 65-year-old man riding a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east in the 18000 block of San Pasqual Valley Road crossed over the double yellow line and hit a 1997 Ford 250 driven by an 88-year-old man traveling west, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The motorcyclist died and the driver of the Ford and his passenger were taken to the hospital.Traffic Division is investigating the collision. 609

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was killed Saturday when an SUV overturned and crashed into a tree on the Sea World Drive on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol said.The accident happened about 9 a.m. when a white Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV, traveling at a high rate of speed according to one witness, overturned and hit a tree on the right shoulder of the Sea World Drive on-ramp, according to CHP Officer Salvador Castro.Units from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were also on the scene, near the Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and Nature Center.The CHP had no immediate information on the identity of the victim. Castro said nobody else was in the SUV at the time of the crash.Traffic on Sea World Drive and northbound I-5 was reported to be slowing. The CHP will investigate the cause of the accident. 837

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A North Carolina man who raped and murdered a 79- year-old woman in her Normal Heights home more than three decades ago was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Kevin Thomas Ford, 63, was convicted by a San Diego jury last month for the May 20, 1987, murder of Grace Hayden, who was strangled and smothered during the rape, according to Deputy District Attorney Valerie Summers. The prosecutor said Ford worked as a driver for older medical patients in San Diego and had driven Hayden two days before her body was found on the floor of her bedroom. DNA on the victim's body, as well as a fingerprint found on her stovetop led to Ford's 2018 arrest in North Carolina. Jurors deliberated for about five hours before convicting Ford of murder and special circumstance allegations of murder in the commission of rape and murder in the commission of a burglary. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials Wednesday confirmed the first influenza- related death of the 2019/2020 flu season in San Diego County.The county's Health and Human Services Agency reported that a 74-year- old Chula Vista man died Aug. 15 due to complications from Influenza B. The man, whose name was withheld, also had additional medical issues, according to county health officials.The county tracks flu activity year-round during each flu season, which corresponds with the county's fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was slashed in the face with a knife by a family member during a fight at Ski Beach Sunday, police said.The family was gathered at the beach when an uninvited family member showed up about 2:35 p.m. Sunday, according to Officer S. Foster of the San Diego Police Department.A 31-year-old man got into a fight with another family member, who pulled a knife and slashed him below his right eye, Foster said.The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the officer said.
