Attempted murder charges were filed Saturday against a Philadelphia man accused of shooting six police officers during an hours-long standoff, according to court records.The suspect, Maurice Hill, 36, was denied bail during a preliminary arraignment, online court records show.The formal charges, including multiple counts of aggravated assault and assault of a law enforcement officer, were filed three days after Hill allegedly barricaded himself in a North Philadelphia row house when police attempted to serve a narcotics warrant.Hill also faces counts of assault of a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment, gun possession and drug conspiracy. Businesses are considering how they'll need to change up their restrooms amid the pandemic.“I do think that most people would agree in the past, even pre-COVID, public restrooms tended not to be the cleanest place in most public venues and this is a real concern given the way germs can be transmitted,” said Steven Soifer, a professor of social work at the University of Mississippi.Across the country, some businesses have been doing quick fixes like taping off sinks or urinals to encourage distancing. Others have been changing up how often the restroom gets cleaned.McDonald’s wants its franchisees to clean their restrooms every 30 minutes.Soifer, who’s also the president of the American Restroom Association, thinks having the cleanings documented would give us all better peace of mind.“A lot of these public bathrooms in the better places have these charts and they tell you the last time the bathroom was cleaned,” Soifer. “I think that should become standard practice. People know they're cleaning the bathroom every half hour, every hour, once a day.”Mcdonald’s is also asking its restaurant owners to put in foot pulls so people can open the restroom door without touching it, automatic paper towel dispensers and touchless sinks.Soifer is hoping these guidelines will set the standard for other businesses.The American Restroom Association advocates for single stall, enclosed private restrooms, like we see more of in Europe. But they acknowledge this would be a big expense for businesses.Cheaper, more immediate fixes they suggest are putting hand sanitizer in addition to soap by the sink or even in the stall. 1641

BOULDER, Colo. — Employees at the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management facility have seen quite a few changes over the years.The facility acts as a collection for the hazardous materials people use in their households. The center collects, separates and then safely disposes of chemicals, batteries and other items that are too dangerous to simply throw away.“Cleaning products, garden products, pool and spa chemicals, things like that,” program manager Shelly Fuller said.The list of items the facility accepts is quite long.“Latex paint, any cleaning products from your home, fluorescent lightbulbs — a lot of times you’ll have the four-footers or even the curly cues that are CFLs, so they all contain mercury,” Fuller said. "Pesticides, herbicides, rodenticides, fungicides, oil and antifreeze.”Fuller has been working at the facility for about six years and has been working with hazardous waste management for about 10 years.She said she’s seen some interesting items pass through the facility over the years.“We had some breast implants come in because of the silicon and formaldehyde they were in. We had snakes that someone had picked up off of the side of the road and wanted to keep as a specimen. Last year we got a jar of teeth,” Fuller said.Lately, though, employees at the facility have been dealing with a new challenge — vape products have been coming in by the pound.“In the last couple months, we’ve received about five pounds of e-liquid. This year, we’ve already received 40 pounds of batteries from vaping devices,” Fuller said.Vaping is becoming a more popular trend across the country. A 1634

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed to board domestic flights or intercity trains.Trudeau says the new requirement will begin Monday at noon. Canadians returning to the country already can't board planes if they are showing symptoms.Trudeau says it will up to the train and plane operators to ensure people with symptoms don't board.
