Tucson Police's Operation Division South Motor Squad took a different and non-traditional approach to help raise awareness for safe driving on Thursday.According to the department, mannequins were placed at different intersections around Tucson in an effort to lower collision statistics and urge drivers to pay better attention to their driving and what is around them. The mannequins were dressed like officers and placed in and around police vehicles near intersections that are or have been known for vehicle crashes. This is the first time TPD has utilized this method by using mannequins.Tucson Police said drivers can expect to see the mannequins out again Aug. 21 but the location has yet to be determined. 732

Uber Technologies Inc. says George-Jetson style commuting may happen in the next five years as it is currently developing a concept for flying taxis in the U.S.CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on Tuesday morning talked about the company's plan to create on-demand, autonomous flying aircraft designed to shuttle people around.Models of a fleet of "VTOLs" (Vertical?Takeoff and Landing aircraft) will be exhibited at the Uber?Elevate Summit today in Los Angeles. Uber Elevate taxis will be requested via mobile phones, just as rides through the Uber transportaiton service are now, Khosrowshahi said in an interview on television today.Flying taxes are still in the design phase, but the company aims to test them by 2020 and projects operation of them in five years.Uber Elevate has listed the barriers it is considering during the design phase, including safety, battery life, vehicle efficiency, air traffic control and more.Uber's air taxi concept was previously highlighted at the annual CES tech show. 1098
TUCSON, Arizona — Ballot counting continues across Arizona Friday in a Senate race separated by only a few thousand votes, and less than one percent. With hundreds of thousands of ballots left to be counted, it may be days before Arizonans know whether Republican Martha McSally or Democrat Kyrsten Sinema won the race to replace Jeff Flake in the upper chamber of Congress. But there's one not-unlikely scenario in which Arizonans may be represented by both Congresswomen in the Senate. After John McCain's passing in August, the responsibility fell to Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey to appoint an interim replacement for the beloved senator in Washington. Ducey made a safe choice in former Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, who retired from office in 2013. Kyl, however, only committed to serve in the role until early January, after which Ducey will once again have to choose a replacement until Arizonans make their choice to fill the seat in a 2020 special election. So who are the potential candidates? There was speculation over the summer that Ducey might appoint his own chief of staff to the role or even Cindy McCain -- the Arizona senator's widow. But should Sinema eek out a win after ballot counting is completed, McSally will be out of a job, having vacated her seat in Congress to campaign. If Ducey decides to appoint McSally, that could leave both candidates serving in the Senate until at least 2020. After that, the Republican appointee will have to decide whether or not to run in the special election.Ducey has left no indication so far about his intentions for the appointment, but McSally's name certainly isn't out of the picture. 1691
