SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A Pacific Beach man says his community is in need of a cleanup. He's raised hundreds of dollars to get it done.According to resident Adam Huntington, overgrown grass, untamed trees, and grimy sidewalks are just some of the mucky issues surrounding Pacific Beach.Huntington has been living in Pacific Beach for at least two decades."You've got beautiful architecture, beautiful masonry, that's just getting covered by grime and dirt."Huntington shared a video with 10News of a cruddy sidewalk on Garnet Avenue, one of Pacific Beach's main streets."We're in the middle of a pandemic right now," says Huntington. "We have an extremely unhealthy, unclean environment, and we force all of our restaurants to go outside and serve people."He hired a private company to power wash another area of Garnet Avenue over the weekend. The funds were raised by a GoFund Me Page. The cost of cleaning was ,200."We have people all over this community, wondering where our services are."We asked the city about why it's not using its services to clean up the area. A spokesperson said they don't have a statement at this time but encouraged anyone with a concern about cleanliness to report it on the city's "Get It Done" app.The city also tells 10News residents do not need a permit to clean or power wash a sidewalk on their own, but they must have a plan to prevent runoff from going into the storm drain. Huntington says he went with an eco-friendly company that followed those guidelines.The former lifeguard says to keep the beach area looking nice, he replaced the wooden barrier posts along the road that surrounds Crown Point."The reason people come to San Diego is to enjoy Mission Beach and Pacific Beach."With the help of two local hardware stores, Huntington says he was able to acquire power tools to continue to help spruce up the neighborhood.As for the overgrown brush, the city says its weed abatement program is back online since being paused due to COVID-19. 1988

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — UC San Diego says it plans to begin repopulating its campus this summer, with about 30% of courses being held in person this fall.The campus says in-person classes will be limited to less than 50 students per class or 50% classroom capacity, whichever is lower. Any classes with more than 50 students enrolled will be offered remotely.Some classes will also be held in a hybrid format. The fall quarter is set to begin on Sept. 28, with student arrivals to campus being staggered to protect the capacity for testing."We aim to mitigate risk in a way that will allow UC San Diego to provide an environment for learning and offer a university experience that our students expect," said Chancellor Pradeep Khosla. "As one of the nation’s leading research universities, we have risen to meet difficult circumstances and responded with innovation every step of the way."For students attending in-person classes, facial coverings will be required, according to the school. Students will also be tested for COVID-19 monthly and when moving in on campus.UCSD plans to offer regular coronavirus testing to students, faculty, and staff, with higher frequency in testing for those who are at higher risk for infection. The campus says there will be no cost for asymptomatic or symptomatic testing for students, faculty, and staff when done at a UC San Diego Health location or through Student Health Services.“Our adaptive model considers the most current science on transmission and infection risk and will drive our determinations on the testing frequency of our various campus populations,” said project lead Natasha Martin, associate professor of medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. “We wanted a simple, easy testing process which can be delivered at scale in the fall to ensure widespread testing for early outbreak detection.“Our simulations indicate that if more than 75 percent of the population were tested per month, we would be able to detect an outbreak before there are 10 detectable infections on campus,” she said.Students aren't thrilled at the impact the coronavirus is having on their college experience."You can't really make new friends and meet new people and do many projects strictly online," Dylan Nelson said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two men are dead and a woman is in critical condition after a car crashed into a Mission Valley bus stop Thursday.A driver collided with the three pedestrians in the 7500 block of Metropolitan Drive around 11 a.m. The driver remained at the scene for San Diego Police.One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other male victim was later pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Both victims were identified as men in their 40s.A 49-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police say.Police and a friend of the female victim say the three pedestrians were sleeping behind the bus stop with their belongings at the time of the crash. Jessica Nelson said she knew the 49-year-old woman and brought her some clothing and make-up earlier that day. She said she tried to convince her to go eat with friends, but the woman stayed with her husband, according to Nelson.Nelson said the pink bags strewn about the crash sight belonged to the victim, she called Kelly.Nelson said she met Kelly a year and a half ago at the bus stop where the accident took place.
