SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Eighteen-year-old Joseph Preissman is getting ready for his very first day as a college student. But a mistake he made last December is dragging down his final days of summer."It'd be really great to just figure out why we're getting charged so much for something so little, and something that was, like, an accident," he said. The accident happened near Idyllwild. Preissman and a friend were returning from a hiking trip, when he said it hailed. Preissman was coming around a bend and lost control of his car, running into a freeway directional sign and splitting its wooden post. Nobody was hurt, so Preissman thought the accident was ancient history. That is, until July 31, when the Preissman family got a bill from Caltrans to replace the sign - totaling 7.95. All but about of that bill was for labor. "I could even understand half that cost, but I can't understand how it could possibly take three people, let's say from 8 in the morning to 12 in the afternoon, to repair that sign," said Daniel Preissman, Joseph's father. Caltrans spokeswoman Emily Leinen stood behind the bill. She said about 0 of it went to administrative fees. Much of the rest reimbursed the crews for going out to the area and replacing the 16-foot-tall post. They had to make sure it had the proper breaking points for driver safety. Leinen added one crew member had to keep watch for other cars coming around the bend."It's rocky road terrain out there, it’s a mountain, so unfortunately they had to do everything by hand on a blind corner," Leinen said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of businesses shut down Friday after a series of water main breaks severely damaged their buildings. RELATED: Sinkhole reported on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley areaBird Rock Coffee Roasters put the brewing on hold when water came rushing in. "All of a sudden the water started spewing up from the middle of the street," said Co-owner Jeff Taylor. "We had six or eight inches probably busting up against the windows, it started seeping up here underneath the doors actually."One of four water main breaks on Thursday was just outside their coffee shop in Morena. Taylor estimates about ,000 worth of damage. He says his crew acted quickly and kept it from getting worse. "We had sandbags blocking off the inside of the windows to keep water from coming in, it still came in, but I think he saved a lot of product and damage to the store by his efforts."The breaks in Morena flooded business and left about 60 customers without water. Another break on 1-8 left drivers stranded for hours after a sinkhole opened up on the asphalt. Overall, not a great day for a lot of people. "Oh, and by the way, somebody hit my car yesterday, so it was a fun day yesterday," said Taylor. He even started damage control by calling contractors and insurance companies before finding out the city would help him. Now, they're working on drying up so they can start roasting again.  "It really is just life, what are you gonna do. There's nothing to be upset about," Taylor said. "Really you just take it one by one, you deal with it you answer the questions you solve the problems, and you move on to the next one."Taylor said he hopes to be back open brewing coffee on Monday.  1764

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fans and players on Petco Park's field fled as hundreds of bees swarmed near the Padres' dugout Sunday afternoon.At about 4:06 p.m., in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Fox Sports reported a queen bee landed on their microphone and hundreds of bees followed suit."It made my skin crawl," Padres Fan Kel Loftis said."Out of the blue all of the sudden you saw everybody running off the field," Padres Fan Bob Pollack said.As fans saw the area clear out, some were concerned for their family's safety, "it was kinda crazy like what's going on?" Loftis said. As a military man, he was concerned something more serious was happening.Then everyone in the stadium saw the television screens with a close up on the swarm. "Between [Austin] Hedges, [Josh] Naylor and [Glenn] Hoffman, you know the third base coach, I was wondering who was more panicked," Loftis said chuckling.Padres Catcher Austin Hedges was seen wearing a Deadpool mask, sweatshirt and holding two bats, seemingly ready to battle the bees. A man from Cartwright Pest Control came out to save the day. Fans dubbed him "Bee Man." The delay in total was less than 30 minutes.The Padres confirmed the company is out at the park for every game in case of an event like this.A group of Girl Scouts in the crowd were concerned about the safety of the bees. This isn't the first time Petco's had bees, a swarm showed up in July of 2009 and delayed the game by almost an hour.While fans thought the bee delay Sunday was strange, they took it in stride.Some parents used it as a teachable moment. "Well she had a lot of questions so the first thing she said was why are the bees out there?"
