ALPINE (CNS) - A ceremony will be held at the Alpine Community Center Saturday to induct 20 honorees on the Alpine Veterans Wall of Fame.The ceremony will feature a performance by local color guards and an appearance by the Patriot Guard Riders in addition to tributes to current members of the wall. The monument, which opened on Memorial Day in 2011, includes roughly 800 tiles, representing active-duty military members and veterans from all eras and branches of the military."Our No. 1 goal is to say thank you and that wall is a huge thank you to those who wore the uniform," Wall of Fame Chairman Dan Foster said. "I want them to know that someone cared."The ceremony is expected to begin at 9 a.m. and is free to attend. A website tracking early voting numbers reports more than 23,500,000 votes have been cast in the 2020 presidential election as of Friday night.The US Election Project, run by Professor Michael McDonald at the University of Florida for the last few elections, is keeping track of early voting, mail-in and absentee ballot data states make available. The details of those ballots are not shared, these are just the raw numbers of how many ballots have been cast.The site is also tracking each state’s ballots cast as compared to the entire number of votes counted in the 2016 election. For the country as a whole, the more than 23.5 million ballots cast is about 17 percent of the total number of votes in the 2016 election. Some states appear to be on track to potentially reach their 2016 voter turnout number, or get very close, before the election.In Vermont, more than 136,000 ballots have been cast, that’s more than 42 percent of the total number of ballots cast in the 2016 election.In Texas, early voting started Tuesday and already more than 2,647,000 ballots have been cast. That’s almost 30 percent of the total number of ballots cast in 2016.Professor McDonald does track about a dozen states that report party affiliation of the ballots returned. Those numbers show a higher number of Democrats have returned their ballots compared to those identified as Republican. However, there is no way to tell who those ballots voted for exactly, and history shows Democrats typically have higher numbers of mail-in ballots, according to McDonald. 1557

A woman in southern Alberta is thankful she didn't swallow what was in a cup she was served at McDonald's as the woman was served a cleaning solution instead of a latte, the CBC reported. Sarah Douglas, who is due with her third child in two months, said all it took was a small sip to realize what she had was not a latte. "I immediately had to put my hazard lights on and pull over and spit it out and rinse my mouth out with ... water," Douglas told the CBC. "I opened up the lid of the coffee and out pours this pungent smell of chemical. It wasn't a latte at all."Douglas returned to the McDonald's location and the manager discovered that a cleaning solution was hooked up to the restaurant's coffee machine. "The supervisor went and got the bottle that was hooked up to it and brought it over to the counter, and I took a picture of it, so I knew what I was working with — what I had consumed so I could talk to 811 and poison control," Douglas told the CBC.  999
