BAYTOWN, Texas — Texas State Rep. Briscoe Cain went to Facebook after seeing a homework assignment regarding U.S. President Donald Trump. The lesson was teaching 7th-grade students how to inference using 10 student-written essays at Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The assignment required students to read an excerpt from "Trump Against American Values" by Parker, and then answer the questions that followed. The first question asked, "Which of the following conclusions would the author most likely agree with?" The answer to the questions was, "Donald Trump should not be president."The second question asked what the reader would infer from reading the passage. The answer being, "Mexican Americans are the major group upset with President Trump."Cain said in his Facebook post that the superintendent of the district, Randal O'Brien, is aware of the issue and has taken corrective action. "It is our understanding the [sic] he and his administration have done all that state law allows them to do at this time," Cain said. "Superintendent O’Brien is and remains the right man for the job."Cain was made aware of the post by Chris Felder, a concerned parent at the school. “This was an assignment my 7th grade daughter received that I found to be very out of place to say the least," Felder commented, according to Cain's post. "This type of non-factual rhetoric has no place in our schools regardless of who the president is. My children have experienced great teachers in the classroom, but have also had to put up with those who see their role as indoctrinators, not educators. As a fellow graduate of Goose Creek ISD, I’m embarrassed that this is what our District tolerates.”Cain went on to say that no teacher should attempt to force their beliefs on students, and the teacher should be stripped of her title. As signature cherry blossom trees go through peak bloom in the nation’s capital, officials in the District of Columbia are resorting to mass street closures to keep large crowds away in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.Public officials are publicly pleading for low turnout and one prominent local chef has launched the #StayHomeCherryBlossomsChallenge to make low visitation numbers into some sort of community goal. Health officials have said limiting public gatherings and keeping a distance of about 6 feet from others would help stop the spread of the disease which has sickened about 300,000 worldwide. The Metropolitan Police Department closed down a a dozen different streets, bridges and traffic circles Sunday morning trying to limit the traditional crowds who pack the area around the Jefferson Memorial and the tree-lined Tidal Basin. The iconic cherry blossoms reached peak bloom on Friday and should stay that way for about 10 days.“It’s getting weirder and weirder,” said National Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst of his unprecedented challenge to keep one of Washington’s crown jewels as empty as possible.Officials are instead steering cherry blossom fans to their 1201

Bakersfield Police patrol vehicles may soon have new decals if a proposal by a local pastor moves forward. Pastor Angelo Frazier of the Riverlakes Community Church, says he will be giving a presentation at Wednesday's City Council meeting proposing that Bakersfield add the nation's motto "In God We Trust" on their patrol cars. He says the proposal is not currently on the agenda, but hopes the council will pick up the plan and approve it. Pastor Frazier says he has been working with City Councilwoman Jacquie Sullivan for several years to incorporate the motto into public places. According to Frazier, if the council does move forward with the plan the money for the decals will come from private companies.Bakersfield would be the second city in Kern County to showcase the decal on the patrol vehicles, with the 1193
