BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin urged here on Wednesday that the role of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in scientific and democratic policy-making should be strengthened.     "We should increase the forms of political consultation and make it an important aspect in making scientific and democratic policies," Jia, chairman of the 11th CPPCC National Committee, said at a seminar held by political advisory body.     Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed improving democratic supervision in three phases: information, communication and feedback.     Jia said the work in the latter half of 2008 would be extensive and tough, and he urged officials at all levels to closely track changing international economic trends and research the new issues emerging in domestic economic development. BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here on Monday the free trade agreement signed between China and New Zealand was of importance and profound significance.     Wen told New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark in their talks that the signing of the free trade accord "explored broad prospects for deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries". JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, June 22 (Xinhua) -- China will stick to the a sustainable energy strategy and make active contributions to the sustainable energy development and energy security in the world, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said on Sunday.     China will put emphasis on both energy exploitation and conservation with priority given to economizing on energy consumption, Xi said at the ongoing International Energy Conference held in the western Saudi port city of Jeddah. BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and other senior leaders took part in a voluntary tree planting activity at the Olympic Forest Park here on Saturday.     China's top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao, top political advisor Jia Qinglin, as well as Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang, and Zhou Yongkang also planted trees at the park next to the national stadium, the main venue of the Beijing Olympic Games.     Covering some 680 hectares in the north of Beijing, the park is a major part of the 2008 Olympics infrastructure, which is expected to improve the city's environment and air quality.     Hu said during the activity that the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics are approaching. He urged Beijingers to support the Green Olympics initiative and make the city greener and more beautiful before athletes from worldwide come in August. BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- China would deepen economic and trade cooperation and step up strategic and mutually beneficial relations with Japan, Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Sunday.     "China hopes the two sides would work together to enhance economic and trade cooperation, aiming at realizing mutual benefit and development," Hu told members of a delegation from the Japan-China Association on Economy and Trade (JCAET).     JCAET honorary president Fujio Mitarai and president Fujio Cho congratulated China on the success of the Olympics and Paralympic Games, and expressed willingness to push forward bilateral ties.     Hu expressed gratitude for Japanese aid after the Sichuan earthquake and for supporting the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, praising the JCAET for "important contributions to the improvement and development of bilateral ties".
