SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- From elementary school students to parents, many in the Scripps Ranch community are coming together to help during the coronavirus crisis.Like many throughout the county, Ryan Williams is now working from home. His wife does not have that luxury. “My wife has been a nurse for about 12 years now,” Williams said. RELATED: Carlsbad teacher's 'thank you' campaign goes viralHis new side project hits close to home. He is helping to make face masks to send to health care workers. “It is personal,” Williams said. “I would want to make sure my wife is protected when she was trying to help save others’ lives. I believe most people in the world would feel the same way as our health care workers.Williams, who works for Craft Bot, makes the headbands for the masks. Others help put it together. The project is coordinated through the Scripps Ranch Civic Association. RELATED: Ways you can help as states scramble for ventilators, other supplies“I've got seven printers, so I can print a lot. Others have one because they're a consumer that owns a 3D printer and they can print three or four a day. There's several people out there chipping in little by little,” Williams said.Ten-year-old Asher Botts is one of those people helping. He is also using his 3D printer to make headbands. He’s made five so far, with each one taking several hours to print. When asked why he is getting involved, he said he was “helping our country.”RELATED: California recruiting retired doctors, med students for expected COVID-19 surgeThis past weekend, organizers of the project delivered 200 of these masks, mostly to local hospitals. More are on the way.“The idea is before me, bigger than me. Everybody in our community is branching together to do this,” Williams said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Employees at a Little Caesars franchise location in Logan Heights say their paychecks are bouncing and management is not responding to their concerns. The workers say the problems started in March, and they told 10News they've received paychecks, only to have them bounce a few days later and racking up banking fees every time. The employees 10News spoke to, from the National Avenue location, did not want to be identified. When they spoke out to supervisors, the employees claimed they were told to not to bother upper management. Other times, they said, they were left in the dark with no response. Employees identified the owner as Tony Bith, saying he owns at least a dozen Little Caesars locations throughout San Diego County. The one in Barrio Logan on Main Street is also closed; the National City Location on Plaza Boulevard is still open. 10News tried to reach Bith by phone but did not hear back as of the publication of this story. 10News also attempted to make contact with him at his home address, but could not access him because he lives in a gated community. 10News reached out to Little Caesars corporate to find out if they were aware of what was going on and they sent the following statement: 1243

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Despite health experts' warning against holiday travel while the country sees a surge in coronavirus cases, as many as 84.5 million Americans are expected to travel this season. While the vast majority of Americans are heeding the call to stay home to help stop the spread of COVID-19, just over 25% of the U.S. is expected to travel between Dec. 23 and Jan. 3, according to AAA.The expected number of travelers is about 34 million fewer, or 29% less, than the number of travelers during last year's holiday season."While Thanksgiving is traditionally spent gathering with friends and family, the year-end holidays are when Americans often venture out for longer, more elaborate vacations. That will not be the case this year," said Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel. "Public health concerns, official guidance not to travel, and an overall decline in consumer sentiment have encouraged the vast majority of Americans to stay home for the holidays."The travel agency estimates about 81.1 million will travel by car, while 2.94 million travel via airline — a decline of nearly 60% from 2019's air travel. The other 480,000 are expected to travel via bus, train, or cruise, AAA says."Typically, cheaper gas prices are an incentive for last-minute trips, especially around the holidays. But the lower prices and less traffic aren’t driving decisions to hit the road. Americans are looking to the public health landscape, including COVID-19 case numbers, to make their travel decisions," said Jeanette Casselano McGee, AAA spokesperson. The CDC is strongly urging families to opt for smaller celebrations this year with their own household and to connect virtually with loved ones. Anyone traveling is reminded to wear a face covering, sanitize and wash their hands, and socially distance to help curb the spread of COVID-19.The address holiday travel, some states are requiring mandatory negative COVID-19 tests before entering, including Alaska, Colorado, Washington D.C., Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island will also accept visitors self-quarantining upon arrival.Several other states, including California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington, are recommending visitors self-quarantine before visiting. 2426

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Driving back from a call in Jamul, two HVAC technicians act quickly to help a driver trapped in a smoking car. The accident happened on Campo Road."It looked like the truck got t-boned by a car and flipped on its side," one of the technicians told 10News.For Kyle Hester and Anthony Ramirez, it was a day they will never forget."Working and something crazy happened, you'll never forget it it’ll always be a story to tell," Ramirez said.Dashboard cameras installed in their work truck weeks ago caught the entire incident on camera."It all happened in a matter of seconds," said Ramirez.Hester and Ramirez pulled up to the crash before firefighters and paramedics were there. Hester grabbed the fire extinguisher from the back of their work truck to try to keep the car from catching fire. Ramirez told 10News, "I would consider Kyle a hero." Meanwhile, Hester said he doesn't consider himself a hero, just a person doing the right thing."I think there were other heroes there that day helping out," said Hester.10News has learned both drivers from the crash were able to get out of their vehicles safely. 1132
