SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are looking for the driver that hit and killed a man in Chollas Creek early Friday morning.SDPD officers say it happened around 1 a.m. on Chollas Parkway. The man was either standing or walking in the street when a speeding car hit him.The victim died at the scene, police confirmed.Police do not have a description of the car but say it was a racer-type vehicle with a loud muffler. It was last seen driving southbound on 54th Street.SDPD's Traffic Division is investigating the crash. 531

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego police are investigating a series of scooter thefts that happened in the North Park neighborhood.Three scooters were stolen blocks from each other and reported one day apart.One was reported Tuesday in the 4800 block of Kansas Street.  Another two were reported stolen on Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is letting voters know that they have options when it comes to dropping off their mail ballots.The county says voters can send in their mail ballots, drop them off at the Registrar of Voters in Kearny Mesa or drop them off at any of the 41 additional sites throughout the county.According to the county, the faster the ballots are returned, the quicker they can be prepared for counting on election night.The 41 drop-off locations are not early voting locations, but for mail ballots only, the county says.Click on the map below for a full list of drop-off location: “More than 1 million San Diego County voters use mail ballots, and that number continues to rise,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The early drop-off sites are convenient for the voter, they help with the timely return of mail ballots and decrease the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day.”   960

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County Board of Supervisors held an emergency meeting behind closed doors Thursday evening to discuss how to potentially keep businesses open after Gov. Gavin Newsom denied removing San Diego State’s COVID-19 cases from the county’s total case rate.The meeting, though, yielding no new actions by the county.In a statement, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said since the board took no action, "it would be inappropriate to comment on the deliberation.""In general, I believe we should be fighting COVID-19 and not the state of California. We do not yet know what our case rate will be next Tuesday and will have to evaluate that number in order to understand any possible impact," Fletcher said.The county is now at risk of moving back to the most restrictive purple tier if the case rate is higher than 7.0 by next week. Gavin Newsom's office on Monday, asking that comedy clubs in San Diego be allowed to reopen safely.The letter requests that performances be allowed to reopen in outdoor settings, with shows lasting no longer than an hour."We're not talking about concerts here where thousands of people are sitting next to each other," Cate said. "These are performances that are done while folks and individuals are having dinner in a restaurant setting, properly distanced, why should they be treated any differently?"Earlier this month, some comedy clubs, like The Comedy Palace in Kearney Mesa, moved their comedy shows outdoors, only to find out they were in violation of public health orders and made to stop.George Salek, co-owner of The Comedy Place, said they have a lot of outdoor space, and people were able to observe social distancing."Eighty people is what we're trying to put in 5,000 square feet," he said.
