‘Tis the season for holiday travel! This Thanksgiving, air travel is expected to be busier than ever before.“We’re expecting an all-time high for 2018 Thanksgiving travel,” says Sharon Pinkerton, vice president of Airlines for America.U.S. airport officials say 30 million passengers are expected to travel through security checkpoints between Nov. 16 and Nov. 27. That’s up 5 percent from last year.“We want to ensure our passengers can get through our security systems quicker than they do in the past,” says David Pekoske, an administrator with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).To speed the process up, Pekoske says new technology is being put into more airports, including automated screening lanes and improved carry-on scanners. But there are things travelers should do, too, to ensure the security process moves as fast as possible. The biggest checkpoint hold-ups: packing prohibited carry-on items and forgetting things in your pockets.“My advice for PreCheck passengers is to just be patient,” Pekoske says.Even PreCheck passengers will be gambling with longer lines this holiday.“I’ve been in times where I want to get in the other line,” says traveler Dan Stagg, who has TSA PreCheck.Stagg says he’s already seeing the long lines, even for PreCheck travelers. But there is some good news. Pekoske says PreCheck changes are also underway. However, you’ll have to wait until after the holidays to see them.“We are going to put some procedures in place beginning after the first of the year, Pekoske says.“Either adding more PreCheck dedicated lanes or changing internal procedures to accommodate that.”One day for travelers to keep in mind: Nov. 25. It’s expected to be the busiest travel day of the year ahead of Christmas, so make sure to plan ahead. 1799

(KGTV) — Recent wildfires that have been fueled by extreme weather conditions across California are already among the state's largest wildfires, burning a combined more than half a million acres.According to CalFire, the LNU Lightning Complex and SCU Lightning Complex fires are already the second- and seventh-largest wildfires in California history, respectively. Both fires are believed to have been caused by lightning strikes. The fires are two of more than 500 burning across the state as of Friday. Many of those fires were sparked by lightning strikes earlier this week. The LNU Lightning Complex sparked Monday just north of Napa and has burned 302,388 acres. That blaze was 15% contained Friday. The SCU Lightning Complex fire started Tuesday east of San Francisco and has burned 229,968 acres. As of Friday, it was 10% contained.Gov. Gavin Newsom says the blazes across the state are taxing California's firefighting capacity, but that assistance from 10 states is starting to arrive. CalFire Chief Mark Brunton pleaded with residents to leave their homes and not to battle the fires themselves, saying that could put more lives at risk.According to the Associated Press, more than 12,000 firefighters, helicopters, and air tankers were deployed Friday to battle wildfires throughout the state. 1311

A big move that could impact what you pay for healthcare in California, but a new bill is already drawing intense opposition from physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers. One California lawmaker is offering a solution—an across the board price cap set by the state. This latest effort to wrangle in skyrocketing costs comes from Assemblyman Ash Kalra (D-San Jose).“The average San Diegan, the average Californian, is not going to put up with the status quo anymore,” Kalra said.He wants to create a commission to set prices on medical services-- with rates similar to Medicare. “Right now, we don't have an open process at all. It's being done privately. It's being set by the private sector and we all pay for it.”SEIU is one of the labor unions backing his plan. The local leader in San Diego says every day, many of his members must make costly decisions. “Am I going to go the hospital and pay that huge co-pay or pay for those prescriptions or do I put groceries on the table?” said SEIU President David Garcias. But opponents argue there is a big downside. “It's not cost of care they're lowering. It's the payment for care that they're lowering,” Dr. Ted Mazer, President of California Medical Association. “The costs still go up.”Mazer is leading the charge against this measure. He says the plan will drive doctors out of the state or encourage them to retire. “ [They’re] in essence saying, it doesn't matter what it costs you to serve the patient, this is all you're going to get. That does not drive the cost curve down, it drives doctors out.”It’s a quick fix he says that could cost you more in the long run. “You're looking at a state that's already facing a shortage of physicians,” Mazer said.Supporters site a New York Times article that says Americans pay up to 20 times as much as people in other countries for the same medical treatments. That's the problem they hope to solve with doctors at the table. “If they're not part of helping us come up with a solution to this, this unsustainable healthcare system is going to take all of us down,” Kalra said.California has seen a similar plan in the past. Back in 2014, voters overwhelmingly struck down a ballot initiative that would have given the state insurance commissioner power to block excessive rate hikes. 2301

(KGTV) - Did a pair of fans really eat mayo straight from the jar at an NBA game? It's not clear. Two women did eat a white cream from a mayo jar during a Sacramento Kings game this week. But it's not apparent whether it was really mayonnaise as opposed to custard, yogurt, or ice cream. 297
