SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This month, there are plenty of fun, free ways to enjoy Halloween and fall with your family and kids.Around San Diego County, numerous celebrations keep the spooky fun going all month, from Legoland's Brick-or-Treat Party Nights to Chula Vista's Villains in the Village takeover.Some events are free for families and others may require purchased admission. (And don't forget, it's Kids Free October!) But all are sure to be a frightfully fun time for everyone.Legoland Brick-or-Treat Party Nights (Sept. 29 - Oct. 26): The Halloween season is alive and well at Legoland Park, where kids can enjoy new live entertainment, character meet-and-greets, costume contests, treat stations, and special Lego building activities.SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular (Sept. 21 - Oct. 27): SeaWorld celebrates the fall season with spooky live shows, Halloween activities, scavenger hunts, special Dia de los Muertos celebrations, and trick-or-treating throughout the theme park.Belmont Fall Fest (Oct. 4 - Nov. 30): Kids can celebrate the fall season with free trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, fall-themed rides and attractions, a spooky escape room, costume contests, and a new hazy maze to escape. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego State University Aztecs football team will play its 2021 home games in Carson due to construction of the team's new stadium in Mission Valley.Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson will be the site for Aztec home matchups in the spring and fall of next year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Aztecs' 2020 football season was pushed into spring 2021.Although the spring schedule has yet to be announced by the Mountain West Conference, the Aztecs' fall 2021 slate includes seven home games, including matchups with Utah, Boise State, Fresno State, New Mexico, Nevada, New Mexico State and Towson.SDSU Athletic Director John David Wicker said, “Once the sale of the site was finalized with the city and we knew we could play football in Aztec Stadium in fall 2022, based on all the information we had gathered, it became clear the existing stadium had to come down in the first quarter of 2021. Our intention had been to play a final season in SDCCU Stadium. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has forced our hand and we must move the spring 2021 games as well.”In a news release, the athletic department said: "SDCCU Stadium will be replaced by a new stadium as part of the SDSU Mission Valley project. In addition to a 35,000-seat state-of-the-art multipurpose stadium for Aztec football, the project also includes a vibrant, mixed-use development that is transit-oriented, and will expand the university’s educational, research, entrepreneurial, and technology transfer programs. SDSU Mission Valley will also include transit, retail, housing, and the development of more than 80 acres of community parks and open space, including the 34-acre River Park."Construction on the new stadium site in Mission Valley is expected to be completed by fall 2022.Opened in 2003, the 27,000-seat Dignity Health Sports Park has played host to National Football League, XFL, Major League Soccer and World Cup championship events. The Los Angeles Chargers called the facility home in 2017, 2018 and 2019, while the XFL's Wildcats made their debut this spring.Carson is about 110 miles north of SDCCU Stadium.With the announcement of the venue change, San Diego State has played its final football games at SDCCU Stadium. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The second phase of the San Diego's styrofoam ban went into effect Friday. Local restaurants are ditching styrofoam for environmentally friendly products. Customers will see more sustainable items made from paper and aluminum. The transition to more sustainable produces also comes with a price. "It's a little more expensive but we understand why we have to do it," said Maggie Rojas from Giorgino's Cheesesteaks in Golden Hill. "Little by little we started the transition, so we didn't wait until the last minute to do it.""We all care about the environment so we want to help out," said Rojas. "It’s a big problem."There are some exceptions to the rules. Grocery stores will be able to use styrofoam trays for packaging raw meat, fish and poultry through 2021. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The unofficial start of summer is here in San Diego and that means it’s time to hit the beaches and enjoy some sunshine.Health officials are reminding residents that it’s also time to check the water quality before heading out.The County of San Diego’s Department of Environmental Health checks the water on a regular basis and posts that information online.Due to the need to warn residents if water quality is poor, the county developed the “Check Before You Get In” website.The site allows people to check water conditions at more than 80 local beaches.
