According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the number of background checks for gun sales on Black Friday reportedly slipped nearly 8% this year. However, it was the fourth-highest single-day total on record in 2020.According to USA Today, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) recorded 186,645 checks on what's typically the biggest shopping holiday of the year, but in 2019, the FBI conducted 202,465.The agency has processed more than 32 million requests through October, which is 4 million more than the previous record set last year, which was 28.3 million. This year's Black Friday was unprecedented due to the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the country. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, 205,000 new cases were reported the day after Thanksgiving. 815

A Washington man who followed the Pittsburgh synagogue suspect on social media was arrested on gun charges after his relatives reached out to authorities, federal court documents show.Jeffrey R. Clark Jr. was charged Tuesday with illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine and transporting a firearm in interstate commerce.Clark's family members tipped off authorities after they grew concerned over his involvement with the so-called alt-right movement, an affidavit says. It said he was "friends" with synagogue shooting suspect Robert Bowers on Gab, a social media platform that describes itself as "the free speech social network."On October 27, within hours of the attack that killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Clark's brother, Edward, went to Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington and fatally shot himself, the affidavit says."After the death of Edward Clark, Jeffrey Clark became more outspoken about his radical views, expressing them openly to his family members who were in the area following Edward Clark's death," the affidavit says. "During these conversations, Jeffrey Clark defended Robert Bowers' killings at the Tree-of-Life Synagogue. Jeffrey Clark also stated that he and Edward Clark had both fantasized about killing 'Jews and blacks.' "A few days after the suicide, two family members called federal authorities and said Jeffrey Clark had been "really riled up" and "agitated" after his brother's death, and he could be a danger to himself or others, the affidavit says. 1534

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - Neighbors are fearful and outraged at the idea a sexual predator could move in next door after running into a detective investigating the neighborhood.Tucked away in Alpine Heights is a quiet sprawling neighborhood with multiple cul-de-sacs."Most people don't even know we're here," three decade resident Gerry Brewster said.David Csik and his wife Katie moved in two years ago and describe the area as a kid's dream, filled with block parties, and get-togethers around the BBQ or the pool. They have two kids, a toddler son, and 6-month old baby girl."We moved to Alpine for the community and to send our children to the schools out here; it's all we've ever wanted," Katie said.December 14th, they say a neighbor approached someone walking around a vacant property next door and found out she was an investigator for the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force (SAFE). "They're writing what they call a factual site assessment which they submit to the courts and they're looking to place a sexually violent predator right down the street," David said they were shocked. Katie was ready to get going, "my initial thought was we have to move."The neighborhood jumped into action, writing stacks of concerned letters to their representatives and investigators with the SAFE Task Force.Supervisor Dianne Jacob responded to their emails, saying in part, "At this time, the County has not been made aware of any recommendation to place a SVP at this location. When a SVP is being proposed for conditional release from a state hospital, a public notification is provided by law enforcement and a court hearing takes place before a SVP is placed in the community. I have consistently stood with the community in opposition and will continue to oppose the release of any SVP into our neighborhoods."She said in the email she also contacted the Attorney General and is waiting to hear back. The neighbors did not wait. They created a map showing dozens of children who either live in the vicinity or visit their grandparents daily. After sending the letters, and after SAFE conducted their investigation, the District Attorney did not take this address to court as a possibility for a reformed sexual predator. It was a relief to parents. "I would never have slept at night knowing someone like that was around here," Katie said. While this particular case was thrown out, neighbors want a secure future."What we want to see is this property off the map out of their database," David said. The San Diego District Attorney's website says, "The Department of State Hospitals reviews all possible housing locations within the county and recommends a specific placement to the court." The department states, "Staff examines existing searches for properties that were previously identified. Such information is used only as a starting point. Staff uses many resources to find potential properties for rent including review of newspaper and Craigslist advertisements; visiting local real estate offices and even, driving through neighborhoods in search of "For Rent" signs."10News reached out to the department to see if this house has been removed from the database or how that could happen, and they said they would get back to us Friday. 3259

About 30,000 doses of an experimental coronavirus treatment are shipping out Tuesday. It's Regeneron's antibody cocktail that got an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the weekend. It’s also the same treatment President Donald Trump got last month.Patients who are diagnosed early with COVID-19 may be eligible. The goal is to keep them from getting sicker, so they don't have to go to the hospital. But the treatment still needs to be given through an IV.“The challenge is there has to be a place to administer it, so a place where you can have COVID patients in an infusion setting where they can be treated and monitored. This is not straight-forward,” said Dr. Helen Boucher, Chief of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Tufts Medical Center.Any transfusion centers administering the IV will charge for those services.“The medicine itself is paid for by the government right now under the emergency use authorization. Those other charges have to be managed and they'll be managed by insurance, Medicare or Medicaid,” said Boucher. It's unclear if patients will need to request the treatment or if doctors will choose who to prescribe it to.In trying to get it to areas that need it most, the federal government will work with states on distribution. The problem is everywhere is seeing spikes right now.“We know that at least for 2020, the supply is going to be very low, so many of us in the infectious disease community and all the health care community are concerned that this resource will be allocated in an equitable way,” said Boucher. After this initial rollout, Regeneron says it expects to have 80,000 doses ready by the end of the month, 200,000 by the first week of January, and then 300,000 by the end of that month. 1796

A White House official said President Donald Trump and his legal team are reevaluating whether Trump should sit down for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller's team in light of the raid aimed at the President's personal attorney, Michael Cohen."The President has made no decision regarding the interview but anybody with common sense will see the attack on his lawyer as cause to reevaluate," the official said. The official added that the President's cooperation should be proportional to the courtesy he receives from the special counsel. The raid on Cohen's office is viewed by the White House as not showing the President that courtesy, the official said. 678
