SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police arrested nine people suspected of driving under the influence Saturday night. According to the department, the checkpoint was held on the 1400 block of G Street between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. A total of 2,403 vehicles went through the checkpoint, police say. More than 400 vehicles were screened, 13 drivers evaluated and nine people arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. San Diego Police said in a news release that they plan to conduct another DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location on Halloween. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is letting voters know that they have options when it comes to dropping off their mail ballots.The county says voters can send in their mail ballots, drop them off at the Registrar of Voters in Kearny Mesa or drop them off at any of the 41 additional sites throughout the county.According to the county, the faster the ballots are returned, the quicker they can be prepared for counting on election night.The 41 drop-off locations are not early voting locations, but for mail ballots only, the county says.Click on the map below for a full list of drop-off location: “More than 1 million San Diego County voters use mail ballots, and that number continues to rise,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The early drop-off sites are convenient for the voter, they help with the timely return of mail ballots and decrease the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day.”   960

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released bodycam footage of an officer-involved shooting that ended with one man dead in City Heights on Thursday.The video shows SDPD officers responding to the 4200 block of Menlo Ave. at about 4 p.m. SDPD said officers were called after reports of a man with a handgun confronting two women."The man manipulated the slide of the gun as if he were loading it and pointed the gun towards the women," according to an SDPD news release. The women drove away and then called 911.The video, which includes bodycam video from two officers and witness video, shows officers arrive to the scene and begin to yell to the man to drop the gun and step away. Matt Dobbs said Thursday.Police say the man picked the gun back up and pointed it at officers. That's when several officers shot at the man, according to Dobbs. The man was hit at least once. SDPD said the man was still moving and in control of the gun, and pointed it in officers' direction, prompting police to fire again.Police continued to yell to the man to get away from the gun, before SDPD says officers used a combination of non-lethal options, including a bean bag round and canine, to take him into custody.SDPD says the man was given medical aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released, but police say he appears to be a Hispanic or light-skinned African-American man in this 30s or 40s.A weapon was recovered at the scene, according to police, but it isn't known if the weapon was real or operational. SDPD said a witness provided cell phone video showing the man picking the gun back up and pointing it at officers.SDPD says seven officers fired shots. They are not being identified. As with all officer-involved shootings, the officers will be placed on administrative duty. No officers were reportedly injured.After the department's Homicide Unit completes its investigation, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will look at the incident to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions.The Internal Affairs Unit will also conduct an investigation, and the Shooting Review Board will evaluate the tactics used by the officers.The Community Review Board on Police Practices will conduct a review of the incident and provide any appropriate recommendations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego authorities are investigating a string of robberies involving thieves wielding hammers.San Diego police and sheriff’s department officials confirmed four incidents are being investigated, and they are trying to determine if the robberies are connected.At around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a Circle K store on Tierrasanta Boulevard due to a robbery carried out by multiple males armed with hammers. It is unknown what the thieves took in the robbery.About an hour later, a man told police that several men with hammers confronted him at a convenience store near Black Mountain Road and ransacked his car before fleeing.Several minutes later, police responded to a 911 call from a driver who reported being flagged down on Maya Linda Road by a man who said he was robbed by a group of people with hammers.A fourth robbery involving a group armed with hammers was reported at a 7-Eleven in Mira Mesa, authorities said.No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, ABC 10News learned.Authorities do not have detailed descriptions of the assailants. 1100
