While the vast majority of us only get to vote for one candidate on the ballot, voters in Maine are allowed to vote for multiple candidates.Maine's unique election process was approved by voters in 2016. The court struck down a lower-court ruling.The process had already been used in the primary and the 2018 midterm. Governor Paul LePage protested the results from the 2018 election, and threatened not to certify the results. In Maine’s House District 2, Democrat Jared Golden won the election despite not receiving a plurality of first-choice votes. Golden ended up garnering a majority after two independent candidates were eliminated.Maine is also unique as it is only one of two US states that divvy up Electoral College votes based on congressional districts. While the winner of Maine’s statewide vote automatically garners two Electoral College votes, the state’s other two votes are given to the candidate who wins within a congressional district.In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the state’s overall vote, but failed to win both of the state’s congressional districts, which resulted in Donald Trump taking one of the state’s four Electoral College votes.For this year’s election, while the Maine’s first congressional district is expected to lead Joe Biden to a statewide victory, the second district is expected to be a tight race. 1915

Very interactive,” describes her dad, Sean McNally. He and his wife Veronica were in love with their little girl. Just before she turned three months old, she started coughing.  “We saw four doctors,” said Veronica. “None of the doctors we were seeing, and there were so many, really knew what it was,” said Sean.After not getting answers from their pediatrician's office and local emergency rooms, they took their baby to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. Doctors there immediately recognized how serious the situation was. She was rushed into intensive care. She did not make it. “It is with me every day. I think about her every day. I feel that loss every day,” said Veronica. Doctors found out too late that Francesca had whooping cough and they also found out how she caught it. “I had whooping cough. I don’t know where I got it from. I look back and wish that I would have known more about the way I could have protected myself and my family,” said Veronica. Babies cannot be vaccinated against whooping cough, but doctors recommend those who care for them are. Veronica says she asked why she wasn’t told this during her pregnancy. According to medical records, on the day of her delivery, a nurse offered her the Tdap shot, which is the whooping cough vaccine. 1449

When the ,200 stimulus payments came out earlier this year, parents were promised an additional 0 for each child they claimed as a dependent. Many low-income families didn’t receive that money, called Economic Impact Payments, because the stimulus checks were based on tax returns.Now, the IRS is trying to fix that, and is asking parents who did not file a 2018 or 2019 tax return to still go to their website and claim a dependent by September 30. The IRS has set up a non-filers tool to help.The non-filers site is designed for those with incomes below about ,400 for couples and ,200 for individuals, and others who are otherwise not required to file a tax return. Those people typically do not file a tax return, and therefore would not have a record with the IRS of any dependent children."Given the extremely high demand for EIP assistance, we have continued to prioritize and increase resource allocations to eligible individuals, including those who may be waiting on some portion of their payment. To help with this, we are allocating additional IRS resources to ensure eligible recipients receive their full payments during this challenging time,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig.A news release on the IRS’ website also says they will be helping those who may have had part of their payments deducted because of past-due child support. When those Amazon Prime Day orders start arriving, they will come in slightly different boxes.Amazon is encouraging people to get a little creative and have some seasonal fun before recycling those boxes.The box designs are part of the launch of a new augmented reality application by Amazon to create interactive and shareable experiences. Amazon describes it as a “fun way to reuse your Amazon boxes until you’re ready to drop them in the recycling bin.”The boxes coming soon have a white pumpkin and a QR code printed nearby. Images for the Amazon Augmented Reality app show drawings on the pumpkin seeming to come to life as a jack-o-latern.Images on the app description page show different box designs with a corgi dog and car option. While unofficial vote count totals show that Joe Biden has won the 2020 election and will become the 46th President of the United States, President Donald Trump has yet to concede. In fact, the Trump administration has so far blocked the transition process from getting underway.Trump has falsely claimed victory in the election on the unproven basis of widespread voter fraud. The campaign has filed several lawsuits in states where vote counts are tight, but it's unlikely that those lawsuits will result in a massive swing in votes needed to change the outcome of the election.However, there are a handful of Republican lawmakers that have recognized Joe Biden as the President-elect, and more still that have said the transition process should get underway while courts hear Trump's challenges.Below is a list of high-ranking Republicans currently in office that have congratulated Biden or called for the transition process to begin.Sen. Mike Rounds, South DakotaIn an interview with NBC News, Rounds, who won re-election earlier this month, did not directly respond to questions about Trump's claims of widespread voter fraud. However, he did say that "certain parts" of the transition team should "move forward."Sen. Marco Rubio, FloridaWhile Rubio has echoed the Trump administration's unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud, falsely claiming that Republicans should be suspicious about mail-in voting. However, in an interview with Bloomberg News, Rubio said that the General Services Administration (GSA) should open up transition funds."We need to have that contingency in place," Rubio said. "I don't think allowing the GSA to move forward on some of the transition work prejudices in any way any of the legal claims the president intends to make."Sen. Ben Sasse, NebraskaAnother moderate Republican who won re-eleciton earlier this month, Sasse congratulated Biden in a statement issued to the Omaha World-Herald."Melissa and I congratulate the next president, Joe Biden, and the next vice president, Kamala Harris," the Nebraska Republican said in a statement.
