A University of Utah senior missing for more than a week was last seen at a park where she met someone in a car, Salt Lake City police said.Mackenzie Lueck, 23, arrived at Salt Lake City International Airport on June 17 after visiting family.She then took a Lyft to Hatch Park in North Salt Lake, where she was last seen in the early-morning hours."Mackenzie was met at Hatch Park by an individual in a vehicle. The Lyft driver left Mackenzie at the park with that person and stated that Mackenzie did not appear to be in any type of distress," Assistant Police Chief Tim Doubt told reporters on Monday.Doubt said detectives are canvassing the area around the park and are looking for video surveillance. He said police have not yet confirmed the make or model of the car or obtained a description of the person."To date the family and her friends have not heard from her," Doubt said. A New Mexico man has been charged with a felony after police say his cat tested positive for methamphetamines.Aaron Spaulding, 39, was initially arrested on June 4 and accused of battering his girlfriend and holding her against her will, the Las Cruces Police Department said in a statement.While police were responding to the incident at Spaulding's home, they learned he may have been neglecting his dog and a domestic shorthair cat, police said.Authorities said he strangled and force-fed drugs to the cat, and announced Tuesday that they'd upgraded his animal cruelty counts to a felony after tests found the cat had methamphetamines in its system.Information on his attorney was not immediately available.He was originally charged with false imprisonment, two counts of battery against a household member, interference with communication and two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, according to court records.Authorities said a veterinarian reported signs of neurological deficits in the cat, who was treated and adopted into another home. 1058

A man was killed after he was struck by lightning while riding his motorcycle in northeast Florida.The 45-year-old man was traveling south on Interstate 95 around 2 p.m. Sunday when he was struck, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.Lightning shattered the cyclist's helmet, officials said. He swerved into the median and was thrown from the vehicle.Authorities haven't identified the man, from Charlotte, North Carolina.
