BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- China's regulation on the Internet industry is in line with the laws and should be free from unjustifiable interferences, a Chinese government official said here Sunday.A spokesperson with China's State Council Information Office told Xinhua in an exclusive interview, that China is regulating the Internet legally to build a more reliable, helpful information network that is beneficial to economic and social development.Such regulation, the spokesperson said, are based on laws and regulations such as the Constitution, the Law on the Protection of Minors, and the Decision on Internet Safety pass by the National People's Congress Standing Committee.Online information which incites subversion of state power, violence and terrorism or includes pornographic contents are explicitly prohibited in the laws and regulations, the spokesperson said.China has full justification to deal with these illegal and harmful online contents, the spokesperson said.This has nothing to do with the claims of "restrictions on Internet freedom", the spokesperson stressed.Different countries have different conditions and realities, thus they are regulating the Internet in different ways, the spokesperson said.China's regulation on the Internet industry is proved to be suitable for China's national conditions and in line with common practices in most countries as well, the spokesperson said.China is willing to cooperate and exchange opinions on issues about Internet development and management wit other countries, but opposes firmly to any defiance of Chinese laws, or intervening Chinese domestic affairs under the pretence of "Internet management" regardless of the truth, the spokesperson said.According to the spokesperson, as of the end of 2009, the number of netizens in China reached 384 million, and websites topped 3.68 million.China has millions of online forums and more than 200 million blogs, and every day, there are more than four million new blog entries posted online, the spokesperson said.Chinese netizens' right to express opinions within the law is well protected, and their opinions are given full consideration by the government in policy making process, the spokesperson said.

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's Education Ministry on Sunday warned students considering studying overseas against Australian schools run by the GEOS group after more than 40 Chinese students were left stranded with the group's collapse.More than 2,300 students in GEOS group schools across Australia were affected after the college closures. The schools were scattered across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Cairns.GEOS is a Japanese company which owns hundreds of colleges around the world. The GEOS group has run out of money for its Australian colleges,according to Australian media reports.Chinese embassies and consulates in Australia are negotiating with local authorities to settle the issue to safeguard students' legitimate rights.The Education Ministry has drawn up a recommendation list of nearly 15,000 schools in 33 countries worldwide on its website. The recommended schools are relatively trustworthy and reliable.Australia has been a preferred destination for overseas education for Indian and Chinese students.The Australian Bureau of Statistics said the number of Chinese student enrollments was 146,000 by June 2009, up an average annual 16 percent over the past six years.

We have cordial and friendly relations," Moni said.Briefing reporters on the visit, Moni said that after the new government assumed power in January 2009, the Chinese government sent a special representative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and expressed strong desire to work together.Moni said Bangladesh also wants to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation with China .On the sidelines of the world climate change conference in Copenhagen last year, Hasina had meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest.The foreign minister said apart from Sheikh Hasina's visit, a number of cultural exchange programs will take place this year marking the 35th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Dhaka and Beijing.

TIANJIN, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The construction of a new express railway section between two cities near Beijing was kicked off Sunday, which, when completed, is expected to further speed up economic integration around the Chinese capital.The 158-km-long railway linking coastal Tianjin and Baoding in Hebei Province will shorten the journey between the two cities to less than an hour.The project is part of the railway network that covers Beijing, Tianjin and cities in Hebei."The network will serve as an important impetus for the integration of the cities around Beijing," said Wang Ailan, a researcher with the Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences.An express railway between Beijing and Tianjin was put into operation in August 2008, shortening the 120-km journey between the two municipalities to only 30 minutes from the previous 74 minutes at least.The intercity railway network is centered at Beijing and Tianjin, and all the cities covered by the network, including Hebei provincial capital Shijiazhuang and coastal Qinhuangdao, can reach each other within two hours' rail ride, according to the plan .With an investment of 24 billion yuan (about 3.5 billion U.S. dollars) and a designed speed of 250 km per hour, the section between Tianjin and Baoding will serve both passenger and freight trains.The railway between Tianjin and Qinhuangdao, which is under construction, boasts a designed speed of 350 km per hour and will cut the trip between the two cities to 50 minutes when completed. Currently, the fastest train journey between the two port cities is about two hours.A high-speed passenger rail between Beijing and Shijiazhuang is also under construction. By 2012, 11 cities in Hebei will be covered by high-speed rails, and by 2020, the intercity railways between Beijing, Tianjin and cities in Hebei will reach 710 kilometers.

BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Zhou Yongkang has encouraged students from Xinjiang who are attending school in southern Guangdong Province to study hard and become qualified builders of the country.Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China(CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when replying to a letter written by the 12th graders of Guangdong Guangya High School on Sunday, or the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.Zhou visited the time-honored school in Guangzhou, capital of the southern province, last September and talked with the students from northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. They wrote a letter to Zhou before the Spring Festival, which fell on Sunday.Zhou said in the letter that launching classes for high school students from Xinjiang in inland provinces is a major decision made by the Party and the government. It aims to let Xinjiang's children to enjoy better education so they can grow up healthily and make greater contributions to their hometown and the country.Zhou said the 56 ethnic groups in the country are a family and they have gone through thick and thin together to forge the flesh-and-blood ties.Zhou said the Party and government are exerting great efforts to address major issues including development gap between southern Xinjiang and other western regions, and the eastern coastal regions of the country.He told students that the CPC Central Committee is to hold a meeting on Xinjiang work, at which major decision will be made to boost Xinjiang's development.
