CLEVELAND — Connie Culp, the first recipient of a partial face transplant in the U.S., has died at age 57, the Cleveland Clinic confirmed Thursday.Dr. Frank Papay, chair of the Cleveland Clinic’s Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Institute, who was also part of her surgical team, confirmed Culp's death in a statement.“Connie was an incredibly brave, vibrant woman and an inspiration to many. Her strength was evident in the fact that she had been the longest-living face transplant patient to date. Her husband, Russell French, was in serious condition.Police in the city of Corona say detectives are continuing to interview witnesses and evaluate video and forensic evidence from the store.Thirty-two-year-old Kenneth French was shot and killed last week by an off-duty Los Angeles police officer. The officer says French attacked him without provocation. COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Scientists say an enormous chunk of Greenland's ice cap, estimated to be about 110 square kilometers (42.3 square miles), has broken off in the far northeastern Arctic. They see it as evidence of rapid climate change, which is leading to the disintegration of the Arctic's largest remaining ice shelf. The section broke off a 50-mile long fjord at the front end of the Northeast Greenland Ice Stream, where it flows off the land and into the ocean.
